South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Custodial Manager.

The Custodial Manager reports to the Director of Facilities and is responsible for managing the custodial program across SPSCC. The role primarily involves working on the Mottman campus with frequent travel to other SPSCC sites.

This position requires exercising discretion and independent judgment to plan, develop, and maintain a cohesive custodial department. Duties are performed independently with minimal supervision. Candidates should be proficient in essential functions such as custodial policies and procedures.

What You'll Do

  • Plan, direct, and manage custodial operations, including facility care, cleaning, event support, compliance, chemical management, and hazardous materials response.
  • Inspect facilities to ensure safety and compliance with standards and guidelines.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate, and develop staff; resolve issues and provide corrective actions.
  • Utilize work order and event scheduling systems to monitor activities.
  • Develop and implement custodial policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and provide training for staff on safety, chemical handling, equipment use, and preventive maintenance.
  • Manage inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist with budget preparation, purchasing, and expenditure reconciliation.
  • Provide clear work priorities and expectations, offering hands-on training and feedback.
  • Demonstrate multicultural competence and foster an inclusive, equitable work environment.
  • Support the college's mission by creating a respectful and fair workplace that encourages diversity and critical thinking.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree with at least 4 years of supervisory experience or equivalent.
  • Custodial Management certification or equivalent industry qualification.
  • Experience in budget management.
  • Knowledge of custodial equipment, materials, and methods.
  • Effective teamwork skills and ability to interact with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency with computer programs for workflows, work orders, inspections, and inventory management.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Ability to plan and conduct training sessions.
  • Cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field.
  • Over 6 years of custodial management experience in a unionized environment.
  • Servant leadership skills, emphasizing shared power and staff development.
