Location: US:CO:BOULDER Department: Nutrition Services Position Title: Culinary Center Custodian Position Start Date: August 22, 2025 Position Type: Unit C-Food Service FTE: 0.75 - 30 hours per week - Regular, ongoing Work Schedule: 261 Days - Monday - Friday 6:30 am to 1:00 pm with a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch break Pay Range:*$19.48 - $24.36 Closing Date: August 14, 2025 Our People Are Our Strength in BVSD Summary: Provide a sanitary, safe, and clean environment for the Culinary Center (CC) facility. Responsibilities:

  • Check for safety and maintenance issues, report and remove graffiti, report vandalism (interior/exterior), and remove litter from building grounds. Report safety and maintenance issues to supervisor.
  • Fulfill requests from the Food Services management team. Demonstrate effective communication (verbally and written on occasion) with the Food Services staff, and community members. Write and respond to emails. Communicate needs with sous chef for custodial supplies, and maintain safety data sheets (MSDS) for chemicals that are being used in the facility. Working knowledge of cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain staff restrooms and showers throughout the day (clean and re-stock with hand soap and paper products as needed). Maintain all chemicals, hand soap, and paper towels supplied throughout the building, ensuring accurate tracking of which supplies were purchased by the Teaching Kitchen versus the Culinary Center. Clean all kitchen hand sinks daily. Clean office areas of the building. Restock paper towels and hand soap in the Teaching Kitchen using their designated supply. Sanitize high touch areas and apply floor sanitizer. Collect dirty laundry, run washer and dryer, and fold laundry as needed.
  • Set up and break down meeting/flex space area for breakfast (if applicable) and lunch. Setup and breakdown for special events and meetings, including locking/unlocking areas for access and providing customer support.
  • Clean all floors, floor drains, and grates of the building daily. Clean floor mats as needed. Utilize mechanical floor cleaning equipment as needed. Clean refrigerated and storage areas daily or as directed. Clean floors in the Teaching Kitchen daily, between AM and PM classes, and after students leave for the day.
  • Remove trash, compost, and recycling from all building areas, and maintain and clean dumpster area of building.
  • Monitor the buildings lighting, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems (boiler, uni-vents, etc). Repair/report issues to the Manager. Report, and respond appropriately, to issues such as alarms, water leaks, fires, mechanical/electrical failures and gas leaks. Perform kitchen Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
  • Remove snow and ice from designated areas. Perform seasonal projects such as mowing areas not accessible by a ride-on mower, tree trimming, cleaning outside windows and other assigned seasonal projects.
  • Respond as essential personnel in case of an emergency, weather or environmental event, and/or school/facility/district closure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Complete and submitted BVSD online application
  • Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English
  • Ability to be on feet up to eight hours every day
  • Must pass pre-employment background screening
  • Must pass post offer physical
  • Pass Food Service Online Training Assessment, including Sanitation Course; must acquire by completion of probationary period
Preferred:
  • Minimum of one year custodial experience in a food production or kitchen setting.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Experience operating custodial equipment and tools
  • Ability to recognize safety issues in the workplace
  • Positive communication, interaction and work experience with diverse people
Salary Information: Salary Placement varies according to experience and education. *Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule). BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process. This information is provided in compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and is the company's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation range and benefits offered for this position. The compensation offered to the successful applicant may vary based on factors including experience and education.
