POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature of the work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills of personnel so classified.

Maintain and exhibit behavior that promotes patient confidence and trust. Capable of working independently / unsupervised. Must produce computerized tomographic images of designated anatomical areas as ordered/directed according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. Operates CT equipment, prepares patients for procedures, ensures that enough information has been obtained to make a diagnosis, assists in the management of the patient flow, and presents images for physician diagnosis; has the responsibility for backup coverage.

Demonstrates proficiency in the performance of CT Imaging exams. Demonstrate proficiency in the use and application of all ages for immobilization devices adhering to safety precautions. Must produce computerized tomographic scanner images of designated anatomical areas as ordered/directed according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. Verifies all information is correct before placing patient in scanner and ensures that enough information has been obtained to make a diagnosis, assists in the management of the patient flow, and presents images for physician diagnosis. Responsibilities and duties may be added, changed, or deleted at any time at the discretion of the Assistant/Director of Radiology, either verbally or in writing.

Must prepare or enter written documentation as required by the Department, such as informed patient consent, patient chart documentation, and other related duties. Demonstrate the ability to recognize patient's fears and apprehensions about exams. Complete requested exams in a timely manner, observing radiation safety standards. Observe biosafety and rules and regulations. Performs related duties in PACS. Responsible for knowing and adhering to established hospital/department policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety. Must complete requested examinations in a timely manner. Must be computer literate. Must select and operate equipment as directed. Must be aware and able to prevent Sentinel Events. Prepare for the ACR for CT.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates proficiency in the performance of all CT exams.
  • Maintain established Department policies and procedures. Maintains confidentiality of all personnel and patient information including electronic and print.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in dealing with patients of all age groups.
  • Address the special needs of each age group and assist in making reasonable accommodations for the hearing impaired, physically challenged or any other patient who may enter the Hospital.
  • Verifies the correct patient for the procedure by checking the name of the patient's requisitions with the name of the patient's name band.
  • Explains procedure to the patient before exams are performed. Answers questions completely in lay terminology.
  • Prepares or enters written documentation as required by the Department, such as informed consent, patient chart documentation, and other related functions.
  • Checks equipment, supplies, and accessories on a regular basis. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas.
  • Proper use of injector.
  • Completed requested examinations in a timely manner, utilizing professional technical skills efficiently.
  • Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and protocols, quality improvement programs, and safety standards. Ensure the delivery of quality services from the department.
  • Sends images to PACS including evaluating images for technical quality. Able to make CD's from PACS or CD burner.
  • Reviews patient questionnaire prior to examination for CT.
  • Employs safety precautions at all times in transferring patient to and from CT area.
  • Observes other Hospital rules, policies, and regulations with regard to the following areas: attendance, punctuality, attitude, and appearance.
  • Functions as Operation Manager (as needed) in an effective manner. These functions include floor supervision, workflow, maintenance, monitoring and scheduling. Hospital computer usage.
  • Willingly accepts additional related responsibilities delegated by the Assistant/Director of Radiology either verbally or in writing.
  • Interacts with contracted Radiation Health Physicists in testing and evaluating equipment testing and evaluation of collected data and Q.C. Program.
  • Performs daily and monthly testing required for QC/QA.
  • Set up protocols for CT.
  • Performs ACR/DOH duties and responsibilities.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Graduate
  • Computer knowledge preferred
  • Graduate of a program in Radiologic Technology
  • NYSDOH License
  • ARRT
  • CT Certification preferred
  • Certified to inject (preferred)
  • BLS for injection Certification

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This position may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, lifting, pulling and/or positioning and transferring of patients.
  • Lifts supplies and equipment, moves heavy equipment.
  • Subject to Electrical and Radiation Hazards.

  • This function/position maybe designated as “essential.” This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and related facilities.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital's Employee Health Services*
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

*The Human Resources department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.
