Job Description :

JOB PURPOSE: Assists the field services divisions and other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies by providing intelligence information on informational data and statistics to assist in their functions. The position is full-time, with a full benefits package. Pay commensurate with experience in the position represented union for Cumberland County with a starting wage of $27.59 per hour. Applications accepted until Sept 22, 2025 at 9am.KEY EXPECTED RESULTS:

  • Assists agency by reading all incoming crime, arrest and teletype reports and matching details of offense to modus operandi of known offenders.
  • Ensures accuracy by matching criminal actions of the arrestee to similar reported crimes.
  • Assists Field Services personnel by researching and analyzing specific crime problems, briefing them on crime concentration (GIS mapping/COMSTAR), unusual offenses, and possible suspects.
  • Identifies and locates trends/patterns of criminal activity including but not limited to: frequency of crime type, geographical factors, victim, target and suspect descriptors and Modus Operandi factors.
  • Collects data relative to the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) and provides the data to State and Federal partners with required information.
  • Assists Field Services by receiving and acting on requests for information and refers deputies to other agencies conducting related investigations.
  • Prepares weekly Crime Bulletins and/or other informational reports to disseminate throughout the Agency and to other Law Enforcement Agencies.
  • Coordinates and Communicates informational intelligence between the Sheriffs Office and Maine Information and Analysis Center (MIAC), Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), New England State Police Information Network (NESPIN), Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (VICAP), and Homeland Security
  • Assists agency with quality control of data into the in-house system, as it relates to NIBRS standards and regulations.
  • Assists Field Services by preparing crime patterns and known offender bulletins and other special reports and distributes same.
  • Assists other staff members to ensure original records are provided to records division.
  • Assists communities by preparing statistical reports and research which includes the NIBRS, jail informational bulletin, and crime reports.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies, and maintains relationships with area Crime Analysts.
  • Assists Sheriff Office by participating in a staffing pool which provides coverage for receptionist /clerk position for lunch, rest breaks, vacations and sick leaves.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Supports the countys safety and health policies by attending required safety training programs, reporting all accidents and suspected safety hazards to supervisor.
  • Fulfills job function by participating as an active member in training, participating on County task forces and performing other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Performs research as directed and provides statistical analysis on matters directed by the Sheriff and/or designee.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Two years experience in law enforcement.
    • A Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Statistical Analysis or related field. Certifications in statistical analysis and crime analysis will be considered as an alternative to the education requirement.
    • Knowledge of police records and statistics including knowledge of standard police record keeping procedures.
    • Knowledge of statutory requirements relative to criminal history, investigative and intelligence information. Demonstrative ability to maintain confidentiality of investigative information.

    • Knowledge of NIBRS Procedures, rules and regulations a plus, working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Ability to learn in-house computer software (Spillman/Summit).
    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
