Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Credit Analyst to support credit research, surveillance, and investment recommendations across assigned sectors. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial analysis skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to communicate investment theses effectively to portfolio managers. This role requires proactive credit monitoring, in-depth financial modeling, and collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough credit analysis on assigned companies and potential investment opportunities, including fundamental review of financial statements, industry trends, and market developments.
- Maintain ongoing surveillance of assigned credits by monitoring periodic financial reports, industry news, peer group insights, and direct communication with corporate management and external analysts.
- Develop and maintain detailed financial models to assess creditworthiness and project company performance.
- Publish timely update reviews and credit opinions on watchlist companies, ensuring the investment team is informed of material developments.
- Gain subject matter expertise in assigned industry sectors, providing regular industry updates and insights to the investment team.
- Recommend investment actions (buy, hold, sell) on specific credits to portfolio managers, articulating a clear and concise investment thesis.
- Evaluate new offerings from brokers, synthesize available research, and identify investment ideas aligned with the General Account or Fund strategies.
- Assess relative value of purchase or sale candidates and provide actionable recommendations.
- Support credit and municipal bond trading activities by assisting in the execution of orders under the guidance of the portfolio manager and senior trader.
- Occasionally assist with investments in other asset classes, including preferred equities, common equities, and money market instruments.
- Complete ad-hoc analytical projects and research tasks as assigned by the Portfolio Manager or CIO.
Skills & Qualifications:
Required:
- Solid understanding of fixed income securities, credit analysis, and portfolio management principles.
- Proficient in financial statement analysis and financial modeling.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with moderate supervision.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Familiarity with Bloomberg, portfolio analytic software, and electronic trading platforms such as Market Axess.
Preferred:
- Prior experience in buy-side or sell-side credit research.
- Knowledge of municipal bond markets and relative value assessments.
- CFA designation or progress towards CFA is a plus.
A reasonable, good faith estimate of the minimum and maximum for this position is $85K/year to $90K/year with benefits
