We are seeking a Counselor/Recruiter for our Pre-College programs who, under the leadership of the Program Coordinator, provides academic, career, and educational counseling, as well as assistance with completing the college admissions and financial aid process. The Counselor also provides motivational support, and acts as an advocate for program participants. Other services and activities coordinated by the Program Counselor/Recruiter include recruitment, academic instruction, mentoring and tutoring. The Counselor/Recruiter is responsible for the effective implementation and achievement of all goals, objectives and standards associated with the grant's scope of work. This part-time, hourly position is approximately 29 hours per week and includes Saturday and off-hour work as required. Example of Duties:
- Screen high school students to determine eligibility
- Collect, analyze and maintain student data, including report cards, test scores, and Personal Educational Plans to improve service delivery to students and increase student outcomes
- Supervise and conduct small and large group counseling, individual counseling and personal development activities
- Plan, develop and coordinate scheduled activities for student participants and their parents/community of care
- Establish and maintain relationship(s) with public school personnel (school counselors, social workers, administrators)
- Organize and conduct career workshops, seminars and other educational activities
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Student Personnel Services, Education, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services or a related field required; Master's Degree preferred
- Must have two or more years counseling experience with adolescents, as well as experience in conducting testing and training activities
- Must be available to work on Saturdays and provide overnight supervision during cultural and/or educational trips
- Experience working with minority and disadvantaged students preferred
- Knowledge of TRIO and/or college preparatory programs preferred
The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate. Compensation: Compensation is determined by a variety of criteria, including but not limited to, previous relevant experience, education level, and certifications. The hourly pay range for this position is $20-$25. Benefits:
