BASIC FUNCTION Basic Function: Support the exploration and development of the academic, career, and personal goals of all students. Assist students to effectively and successfully progress through the (their individually defined) educational process while remaining committed to providing all students with (equal) access to an array of counseling services. Working Conditions:
  • Assignments could be at the Palm Desert Campus or one of our sites in Indio, Mecca/Thermal or Palm Springs. Schedules may be during the day, evening or weekends.
  • Part-time faculty assignments are filled on an as needed basis utilizing this open and ongoing applicant pool. The number of available openings will vary from semester to semester. Qualified candidates will be contacted by the division should a vacancy arise.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  • Demonstrated competence in current counseling principles, practices, and techniques for academic, personal, and career counseling.
  • Knowledge of university transfer requirements and experience in providing transfer advisement.
  • Ability to relate to the needs of low-income and first-generation college students.
  • Ability to successfully interact with students and parents from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, staff and administration.
  • Ability to provide personal, academic, and career counseling services to eligible program participants.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent (NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
