ATR Details Position Details Search Number PJ # 7298 Title Counselor, Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Category Professional Department Educational Opportunity Program About The Position: The successful candidate will be responsible for providing academic and personal support for historically disadvantaged students who have diverse talents, strengths, experiences and needs. The counseling services provided will focus on adaptation to the campus environment, goal development, academic planning, problem resolution techniques, and other areas that promote self-sufficiency and independence. Responsibilities will include advisement to an assigned caseload of EOP students; providing information and guidance relative to career development, financial aid, housing registration and other relevant areas on a walk-in, appointment, or group basis; and ongoing reviews of academic progress and proactive support which may include outreach and collaboration with other campus departments. Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) opens the door to higher education for students who might not otherwise have a chance to pursue their college dream. We are part of the Enrollment and Student Success division which supports a student's entire collegiate experience from the point of admission through to graduation. We partner with students, faculty and staff to provide a network of opportunities and services that lead to student success. Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • General knowledge of college student development theory and its application
  • Experience in academic advising
  • Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of college students
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff and administrators
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in student affairs, education, counseling, or a related area
  • Experience with academically at-risk students
  • Knowledge of the financial aid process
  • Familiarity with Banner or a similar data management system
  • Experience teaching new student seminars
  • General knowledge of EOP and/or TRIO programs
  • Valid driver's license
