Corrections Agent
Provide supervision of pre-trial and sentenced offenders. Providing supervision and case management services to adult, juvenile and offenders in an effort to enhance public safety and facilitate offender change through evidence based and restorative practices. May also provide supervision and case management services to a population of truancy offenders. Directly responsible to the Director of Court Services and Unit Supervisor, which are administrative positions directly responsible to the Tenth Judicial District Court.
Position is responsible for investigating offenders and truants in an effort to make written and/or verbal reports to the Court. Act as a liaison between the Bench, county departments, local/state/federal agencies, treatment providers, the public, and offenders to help offenders establish and maintain a positive support network in the community. Assist other Agents in understanding and carrying out the mission of Wright County Court Services.
Essential Functions
Investigation:
Conduct bail evaluations for the Court.Conduct pre and post-dispositional investigations with offenders, victims, and collateral persons to obtain necessary background information.Conduct pre-sentence investigations, as well as post-sentence investigations, ensuring the Court has the information needed to make knowledgeable case dispositions.Conduct in-depth interviews with all clients.Conduct other collateral information-gathering interviews.Obtain criminal history and programming information for offenders.Prepare and submit written or verbal reports to the Court, including recommendations for sanctions, evaluations, treatment, and/or education to assist in the issuance of appropriate evidence-based dispositions.Conduct diversion interviews with adult and juvenile offenders and formulate diversion contracts.Refer offenders for supplemental evaluations when ordered by the Court.Identify offender's risk/criminogenic needs, level of supervision utilizing a validated risk/needs assessment.Review/screen cases with the supervisor/director as needed.Conduct pre-dispositional investigations with offenders, victims, and collateral persons to obtain necessary background information.Attend court when necessary.Supervision:
Direct and indirect contacts, office visits, home visits, school visits, and placement visits with offenders.Review probation agreements with all clients.Monitor and verify the compliance of offenders with probation conditions through collateral contacts, including treatment providers, family, schools, other probation departments, and law enforcement.Investigate clients' activities to ensure compliance.Implement a plan with specific, practical, and attainable goals that will foster adjustment.Coordinate and encourage client involvement in treatment by utilizing available community resources.Provide resources and/or refer offenders for supplemental evaluation and/or appropriate education, counseling, and treatment programs.Provide crisis management, which includes identifying, assessing, and determining the appropriate course of action in urgent situations.Participate in staffings/meetings to coordinate services to enhance offender's opportunity to be successful on probation.Develop plans in cooperation with treatment resources.Make appropriate referrals to treatment/counseling agencies.Transfer, re-structure, violate and close offender's files when appropriate.Administer alcohol and drug testing to offenders and collect DNA samples pursuant to statute.Develop and implement case plans with offenders using motivational interviewing.Reassess offender's risk/criminogenic needs and level of supervision utilizing a current risk/needs assessment.Review/screen cases with supervisor as needed.Provide the Court with written and verbal reports as necessary.Submit Interstate Compact Reports as needed.Provide on-call coverage for offenders as needed and on-call coverage on weekends.Update the Predatory Offender Website as needed including updated photos of offenders at a minimum of every two years.Refer offenders to drug testing program.Conduct restitution investigations.Refer offender to adult and juvenile community service or sentence to service.Provide education programming - Awareness Panel, Adolescent Chemical Education, Adult Choices, Juvenile Choices, and Juvenile Cognitive Program.Public / Professional Relations:
Serve as a representative of the Court.Maintain knowledge of local resources and services.Maintain professional working relationships with and act as a liaison between the Bench, county departments, local/state/federal agencies, treatment providers, schools, victims, the public, department staff, and offenders/parents.Develop and maintain channels of communication with area treatment resources and social services agencies.Assist in developing and facilitating department programs.Complete ride alongs with local law enforcement per agency guidelines.Assist in training new staff and interns/student observers.Facilitate and/or work closely with assigned schools on their Safe School Initiative. Assist in planning the schedule for meetings and drafting an agenda for each meeting.Administrative:
Maintain required certifications and attend core training in Evidence Based Practices and other applicable training.Attend all staff meetings, unit meetings, and meet with the director/supervisor as scheduled.Maintain current and accurate offender case data on CSTS.Submit biweekly time sheets/logs and monthly mileage/expense claims.Demonstrate an ability to use CSTS, S3, Odyssey, YLS, MAST, MAYSI-2, DVS, POR, BCA, and any other corrections-based websites or evaluation tools that are set forth by the director.Maintain accountability with work attendance that is regular and dependable.Attend workshops, seminars, conferences, and lectures dealing with inter-personal relationships.Read and review pertinent professional materials.Attend pertinent job-related educational courses.Consult with supervisor regarding caseload developments, appropriateness of case decisions, and management and procedural issues/interpretations in the area served.Supervision of new agents/interns at the direction of immediate supervisor.Attend pertinent job-related computer courses and utilize departmental computer programs, templates, and forms.Additional Tasks:
Share information on offenders with other involved agencies as governed by the Data Privacy Act.Serve as Agent of the Day, be available from 8-4:30 pm to cover court/urgent matters.Facilitate booking/printing of offenders required to do so.Participate in facilitating programs offered by Wright County Court Services.Participate in mandatory Safety Training established by WCCS Administration.Submit bail evaluations as required on offenders per statute criteria, if requested by immediate supervisor/director.Submit six-month informal reviews on all juvenile offenders on indefinite or one-year probation.Conduct Mental Health Screens on all eligible offenders, make appropriate referrals.Assist with wRight Choices suspension program as directed.Prepare JPO files for the court and assist with JPO coverage as assigned.Communicate regularly with School Resource Officers (SROs) assigned to cover schools.Initiate and participate in Restorative Justice community-based programs (i.e. Safe Schools Program, Community Conferencing, city council meetings, community service work sites).Any other duties assigned by Supervisor or Director.Minimum Qualifications & Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Valid driver's license and availability of an insured vehicle for use in county business.Bachelor's degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice or a related field.Must be certified for the position of Corrections Agent through the Minnesota Department of Corrections.Certain positions may require additional specific certification of licensure.Working knowledge of, and demonstrated ability to utilize Evidence Based Practices;Working knowledge of local/state/federal laws, court rules, and professional standards in the field of corrections;Working knowledge of community resources available to facilitate offender change;Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form;Ability to problem solve, make decisions, and use resources available to Agent;Ability to work effectively with a variety of offenders;Basic knowledge of applicable computer programs;Knowledge of data practices.Wright County offers an exceptional benefit package including vacation, sick leave and holiday
