Talascend is currently seeking a Core Engine Calibration Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Overview The Calibration Engineer is responsible for generating optimal base engine calibrations meeting all the program objectives in terms of performance, control stability, lowest fuel consumption whilst minimizing the engine out and tailpipe emissions levels. Responsibilities

  • Generating optimal base engine calibrations meeting all the program objectives.
  • Setting up and controlling all engine sensors and actuators for all engine operating conditions under both steady state and transient engine operation.
  • Conducting engine hardware and systems testing and supporting all other teams with their standardized and specialized engine test requests.
  • Planning and coordinating day to day activities of an engine and powertrain dynamometer.
  • Collaborating with technicians and laboratory support engineers.
  • Developing test plans and timelines, and generating reports to communicate the status of the program.
  • Evaluating new engine hardware and powertrain technologies for future and carry over applications.
  • Analyzing and solving complex system problems as they relate to engine performance, fuel consumption, emissions, and base engine calibration development.
  • Manipulating and utilizing large and complex sets of engine mapping data.
  • Participating in the decision process of base engine hardware selection and base engine calibration.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent Engineering degree with 3-5 years of experience in the development and calibration of gasoline spark ignition engines.
  • Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 1-3 years of experience in the development and calibration of gasoline spark ignition engines.
  • Preferred: Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of internal combustion engines.
  • Strong expertise and knowledge of engine control strategies and complex optimization strategies.
  • Data acquisition experience collecting and processing data.
  • Working knowledge of engine analysis and calibration tools, emissions development, engine technologies and competitive products.
  • Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Good teamwork skills and ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience and overall knowledge in emissions development, powertrain systems development and controls systems development.
  • Calibration process knowledge using design of experiments and advanced optimization techniques.
  • Proficient in advanced simulation tools.
  • Proficient in Matlab / Simulink.
