The committed workers at Mercy Home provide healing, guidance, and opportunity to young men and women in need.How You'll Make An ImpactYou will work collaboratively with department staff and volunteers to coordinate a tutoring program and after school program during the school year; To manage the learning center and its resources; To establish a welcoming learning environment and integrate executive functions materials and time management strategies; To coordinate classes and events during the school year and summer; To develop and maintain a system which supports the day-to-day operations of the departmentTutoring CoordinationIn this Role, you will:
- Communicate effectively with IS team and Advancement team regarding need for tutors and tutor application process.
- Review tutor applications and evaluate tutors' school subject strengths and availability to assist with appropriately matching tutors with youth.
- Lead training sessions and orientation sessions with tutors at start of each semester and as needed.
- Administer Woodcock-Johnson 4 tests.
- Be familiar with youth's academic strengths and areas of development.
- Co-create study time plans for youth.
- Maintain confidentiality of youth when working with tutors.
- Maintain up-to-date tutor files and contact information database.
- Keep attendance/sign-in records, feedback forms, and tally tutoring hours. Track data in BluePrint.
- Create a communication network with Department staff and Youth Programs staff for timely notification of youths' availability for tutoring.
- Maintain a calendar of events that may impact a youth's availability for tutoring.
- Coordinate Department staff for the greeting, escorting, and monitoring of the tutoring program on Monday through Thursday during the school year. When sessions are delivered virtually, coordinate Department and Youth programs staff for execution and monitoring of tutoring program.
- Be present in the learning center or have a known online presence during tutoring and readily receive feedback from tutors at end of tutoring sessions.
- Work with Department to retain tutors in the program.
- Conduct weekly tutor review meeting with Department staff to review tutor needs and challenges. Effectively problem solve and communicate with tutors and Youth Programs staff as necessary.
- Partner with Department and Advancement staff to coordinate tutor appreciation efforts throughout the school year.
- Oversee quality improvement process of tutoring program and lead improvement projects related to tutoring program.
- Update tutoring program policies and procedures as needed.
Learning Center Coordination
- Establish an open, friendly, and welcoming learning center.
- Monitor, supervise, and assist in the use of the learning center and its resources.
- Maintain and manage the overall order, cleanliness, and attractiveness of the learning center.
- Manage Title I contracted teachers and provide guidance when working with youth
- Integrate executive functions materials and time management strategies into function and use of learning center.
- Establish library and system for lending books.
- Ensure that all technology is current and in proper working order.
- Use the latest information technology to perform research, classify materials, and help youth and co-workers seeking information.
- Keep appraised of trends through Chicago Public Library booklists and outside groups such as 826CHI and Open Books.
- Assist in creation and management of viable budget for learning center supplies, resources and activities.
- Communicate learning center policies, procedures, and regulations to youth and co-workers.
- Update learning center policies, procedures, and regulations as needed.
After School Programs Coordination
- Assist Director to develop implement, and monitor the operational, administrative and programmatic processes and activities related to the After School Program initiatives. Ensure compliance with program objectives, agency mission, DCFS policies, and COA guidelines.
- Manage information, data, and statistics for BluePrint and the Quality Improvement process.
- Work with Director to purposefully analyze and use data to support educational goals of each youth.
- Maintain copies of regularly used paperwork (i.e. Title I, registrations, summary, and evaluations, course inquiries, etc.).
- Be responsible for coordinating ASP classes and offerings to designated programs to meet the needs of program and/or individual youth.
- Intentionally plan for and conduct summer enrichment program to elementary-age youth.
- Create and teach enrichment offerings to youth.
- Assist with planning After School Program' courses, special events, and meetings.
- Keep appraised of trends and offerings in the Chicago-land area specifically in education, character building and the arts.
- Assist with maintenance of garden.
- Manage educational/school supplies.
- Participate in strategic planning meetings and other committees as needed. Work cooperatively with department and Agency staff for overall program implementation and development.
- Employ all aspects of de-escalation and behavior management techniques as outlined in CPI protocol.
- Learn, align with, and execute the treatment philosophies, modalities and practices of the Agency.
What We Need From You
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and to meet deadlines promptly.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as the ability to become proficient in other software packages and programs.
- A valid Illinois driver's license, ability to drive a van, maintain a clear driving record, and retain driving approval through the Department of Children and Family Services.
- Comfortable with numbers and performing simple statistical analysis.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work both independently and as an active team member.
- Ability to maintain professional demeanor while exercising judgment and discretion in work.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions

- Ability to attend required Agency trainings and maintain necessary training compliance. Flexibility to attend daytime trainings or sessions outside of regularly scheduled hours.

Basic Information / Schedule DetailsThis is a Full-Time Monday-Friday position. 4 nights until 8pm on Mon-Wed & Fri during the school year.
