URI is just 30 minutes from Providence, RI and within easy reach of Newport, Boston, and New York City._________________________________________________________________________________________________BASIC FUNCTION:Assist the Associate Director, Athletics Communications and New Media in developing, coordinating and implementing communications and public relations strategy for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, its roster of sports, staff, coaches and student-athletes. Create and implement initiatives that bring the stories and accomplishments of the programs, coaches, staff and student-athletes to the general public. Provide input to the external relations team comprised of individuals from sports information, development, corporate relations, marketing, promotions, ticket sales, game operations and special events.Duties and ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for external communications with the media, general public, students, alumni, faculty, and staff for programs assigned.Serve on external relations team for all matters related to internal and external communications.Develop, mentor, supervise, lead and evaluate game staff, interns, and student assistants.Assist with hiring and training of required game management personnel.Provide timely and editorially sound information on GoRhody.com.Assist with all forms of internal and external communication, including official team and department social media accounts.Willingness to work nights and weekends at athletic events.Within assigned sports, responsible for all game management issues that are relative to media and public relations.For assigned sports, coordinate all statistical accumulation and dissemination, records and archives, and serve as primary media relations liaison to all applicable conferences and to the NCAA.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:Personal computers - both PC and Apple; printers. Software to include: StatCrew/The Automated Scorebook statistical software; all Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite applications, with an emphasis on InDesign and Photoshop.Required QualificationsREQUIRED:1. Bachelor's degree.2. Minimum of one year of experience in collegiate sports information or professional sports public relations.3. Demonstrated administrative experience.4. Demonstrated experience with computer and internet technology.5. Demonstrated experience with desktop publishing.6. Demonstrated supervisory experience.7. Demonstrated experience in developing and coordinating an effective internal and external communications strategy.8. Demonstrated experience with special event, game-day and media operations.9. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.10. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.11. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.Preferred QualificationsPREFERRED:1. Master's degree.2. Demonstrated administrative experience in NCAA Division I, and/or from an affiliate conference or professional sports association.3. Demonstrated experience with computer software for game statistical functions.4. Demonstrated knowledge of photography and design.5.
