Position Summary: This is a full-time, twelve-month position. Responsible for utilizing the CASEL Framework in the implementation of unique programming for students enrolled in Mitchell's Self-Advocacy and Interpersonal Life-Skills (SAILS) program and the Thames at Mitchell Connect program. Helping students develop skills in environments that enhance their learning and development is a prime objective of the inaugural Coordinator SAILS and Connect Programs. The candidate will teach a structures SEL curriculum through a college seminar course, meet one on one with students, and develop curriculum, activities and events that relate to the areas of social emotional learning Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide positive leadership and oversight of the SAILS and Connect programs.
- Communicate with families and incoming SAILS and Connect students over the summer to become familiar with each student, family and needs.
- Create and instruct a freshman-level course with a focus on social emotional learning curriculum.
- Meet with students one-on-one to set and discuss progress with individual goals based on SEL Curriculum.
- Assess and monitor student SEL.
- Teach courses in the Connect Program (Thames Year Two)
- Create, coordinate, and deliver evening and weekend activities/events with residential living staff that align with SEL curriculum.
- Maintain appropriate documentation of student progress using school documentation systems, including grading software, email and other Mitchell College software.
- Rotate work hours: evenings and weekends, as necessary.
- In collaboration with the SAILS Mentors, Host SAILS Community Meals and Hangouts.
- Offer bi-weekly workshops and study hours following the developed SAILS curriculum, making adjustments as needed to meet the needs of each new cohort.
- Communicate, educate and provide appropriate response to student concerns and behaviors including crisis situations, behavioral concerns and student conflicts.
- Collaborate with the Bentsen Learning Center, Residence Life and the Thames at Mitchell Team on curriculum development and implementation based on the needs of SAILS and Connect Cohorts.
- Assist with parental communications as needed.
- Train, supervise and evaluate Student Mentors.
- Regularly participate in open houses and meetings to promote and recruit for the SAILS program.
- Be highly visible and accessible to SAILS and Connect Participants.
- Complete collateral assignments and duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Experience and Belonging, Director of Thames at Mitchell, or designee.
Physical Demands: This position will require climbing up and down stairs to execute routine job functions and serve in an on-call capacity. Reasonable accommodations will be made upon request. Required/Preferred Education and Experience:
- A Master's degree in the area of education with an emphasis on social emotional learning (SEL) is required.
- Knowledge of and experience in working with students who have learning differences and/or are on the spectrum is desired.
- Familiarity with CASEL framework, curriculum development and assessment highly preferred.
- The position requires excellent written and verbal communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, especially during high stress situations. Individuals who are able to work in a continuously changing organization and are highly motivated are best suited for this position.
- Enthusiasm, creativity and flexibility required.
- Some evening and weekend hours required.
