Activity Coordinator Position Summary
Directs, plans, coordinates, and implements activities to meet the interests, physical, cognitive and psycho social needs of all residents. Participates in comprehensive assessment process, including MDS and CAA's completion and resident plan of care activities in accordance with State and Federal regulations. Supervises department volunteers and promotes enthusiasm and interest for activities. Maintains resident's privacy, dignity, confidentiality and respects residents' rights.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities as Assigned:
Develops and implements activity programs within the allocated budgetCompletes a comprehensive assessment on each resident to include his/her background, past and present leisure interests, abilities, physical and mental limitations, and activity-related needs, and completes the activity portion of the MDS/CAASContributes to the interdisciplinary plan of careSchedules and coordinates leisure activity programs to meet the needs of TCU residentsPosts a monthly calendar or eventsEncourages resident attendanceMaintains documentation of resident's activity involvement in medical record, modifying plan of care as indicatedEstablishes an active volunteer program which includes recruiting, screening, orienting, training and supervising volunteersInterprets to residents, other staff members, and the outside community the purpose and benefits of the activity programServes as a facility liaison to promote positive community supportSupervises and protects residents within activity programs, ensuring preservation of resident's rightsReviews and updates the activity portion of the policy and procedure manual. Routinely adheres to facility policy and proceduresPerforms other department related duties as assignedQualifications:
Required:
- Associate degree in Recreation Therapy, Occupation Therapy, or related field
- Certification of license in field of specialty (i.e., CRTS, OTR, etc.) OR must receive license/certification within 1 year of accepting position
- Eligible for certification as an Activity Professional or as a Therapeutic Recreational Specialist by a recognized accrediting body
- BLS Certification within 3 months of hire
Preferred:
- Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Therapy, Occupation Therapy, or related field
- Possess 2 years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, one of which was full-time in a resident activities program in a health care setting
