WSFSSH MISSION STATEMENT The mission of WSFSSH is to provide safe, affordable, senior housing that integrates compassionate property management with supportive services to enhance the independence and dignity of each resident. WSFSSH creates and preserves affordable housing while supporting the development of healthy neighborhoods. Job Description: Cook #1 Under the supervision of the Food Service Manager and or the Cook #2, the Cook #1 will be responsible for the preparation, serving, and clean-up of meals. The cook #1 will:
- Work with team members to prepare and create meals following standardized recipes provided by the Dietitian.
- Document temperatures of food, freezer, and refrigerators as required.
- Follow proper portion and serving guidelines provided by the Food Service Manager.
- Assist in accepting food deliveries and putting deliveries away following all NYC Department of health regulations
- Distribute meals to the residents adhering to all food safety guidelines, proper food temperatures, no salt added, no sugar added as stated in the DOH food standards.
- Responsible for cleaning the work area, equipment, kitchen, storage, and dining area.
- Follow all food safety procedures outlined by NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
- Meet with supervisors on a regular basis to discuss food service.
- Assist in the monitoring of dining room during meals.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Cover for Cook #2 when needed.
- Assist in the clean-up of all food service areas when needed this includes dish washing and trash removal.
OTHER
- Work as a member of a team to establish and maintain elevated level of care and respect for and communication with residents.
- Work cooperatively with other staff members.
- Share information about resident progress, needs, and problems with appropriate staff.
- Attend training sessions and conferences as required for enhancement of job skills.
- Implement emergency procedures, as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS EXPECTED:
- 1 year of cooking and meal preparation experience
- Obtain and maintain NYC Food Handlers Certificate, must secure the food handlers' certification within 90 days of employment.
- At least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma required.
- Should be able to lift at least 25lbs.
- Must be able to climb stairs and stand for extended periods of time.
