Controls & Automation Engineer (Siemens PLC / TIA Portal)Birmingham, ALarea | Direct Hire | Full-Time | Onsite Only | Relocation Available~ $120K–$125K Base + Bonus + Benefits | Minimal TravelA leading manufacturer of high-performance steel and metal products is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join their automation team at a facility near Pell City, AL. This role is ideal for a self-motivated engineer with strong Siemens S7-300 and S7-1500 experience, panel design skills, and a background in fast-paced industrial environments.Key Responsibilities:

  • Program and troubleshoot Siemens PLCs (S7-300 and S7-1500)
  • Support conversion of legacy systems to S7-1500
  • Design control panels using AutoCAD 2016
  • Develop and modify HMI systems using TIA Portal (V15.1–V18) and Simatic Manager
  • Lead start-up and commissioning activities
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Collaborate across departments to execute capital projects
  • Ensure all work complies with NEC and NFPA standards
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Siemens PLC programming (S7-300 and S7-1500) – must-have
  • TIA Portal V15.1–V18 and Simatic Manager proficiency
  • AutoCAD 2016 for electrical panel design
  • Experience in fast-paced manufacturing environments
  • Familiar with VFDs, commissioning, and system troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of NEC and NFPA codes
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience
  • Strong communication skills and a self-starter mentality
Candidates with only Allen-Bradley experience will not be considered.No sponsorship or OPT accepted.Position Highlights:

  • Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM CST
  • Minimal travel (approx. 10% annually to sister plant)
