Job Title: Controls Engineer Division/Dept Name: Operations Reports To: Engineering Manager GENERAL SUMMARY (Describe the overall duties and responsibilities of the job): 1. Provide PLC support (programming, training, and troubleshooting) to all Operations functions ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties required for successful job performance): 1. Provide PLC programming support for all Engineering and Maintenance functions: Write original programs for equipment brought in by Manufacturing Engineering group; Write or modify programs for upgraded or existing equipment; Write and/or debug PLC and HMI code and VFD devices 2. Provide PLC training and development support: Provide ongoing PLC programming training and general assistance to improve the skills of ME and Manufacturing Engineering positions; Provide general technical support to all Production and Engineering functions; Provide direction and guidance to support Engineering, Maintenance, and Production associates 3. Provide support for development of new equipment; Participate in trial runs / demonstrations of new equipment and/or new process capabilities; Coordinate electrical requirements for new equipment and modified plant layout or equipment 4. Provide kaizen support: Provide proactive input and solutions to Engineering for the continuous improvement of the organization; Identify and implement cost-reduction improvements for both new and existing equipment / processes. REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE (These are the traditional minimum, or required, bona-fide occupational qualifications and other requirements of most people in this job). 1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Maintenance, or related technical field, or equivalent experience. REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those needed to perform the essential functions of the job). 1. Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills 2. Effective organizational and time management skills; Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines 3. Basic knowledge of MS-Office and Plex 4. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills 5. Proficient at PLC programming, with emphasis on Allen-Bradley and Omron 6. Working knowledge of electrical schematics 7. Working knowledge of Auto CAD and MS-Project 8. Working knowledge of modern manufacturing processes and principles, including new technologies 9. Basic knowledge of production control / scheduling systems REQUIRED DECISION-MAKING AND ORGANIZATION IMPACT (Describe the typical types of decisions made by employees in this job and the likely impact of those decisions on the Company). 1. This position writes or modifies PLC programming for all equipment, new and current. If this is not done well, equipment may not run efficiently, may encounter repeated faults, and actual capacity may not meet targets. 2. This position participates in trial runs of new equipment or new process capabilities. If poor judgment is made, we may not achieve the full benefits of the new process and/or we may have to take on the cost of making post-build modifications to the equipment. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS (Indicate job titles for this job's supervisor and direct reports). 1. This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager 2. This position has no direct reports WORKING CONDITIONS (Describe the environment within which the work is performed). 1. Mix of office and manufacturing floor environments 2. Overtime of varying levels may be required 3. Occasional travel may be required PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Able to travel throughout manufacturing areas, including within work cells 2. May periodically require maneuvering under or behind equipment 3. Requires keyboarding and computer usage.
