DescriptionJOB SUMMARY: A Controls Engineer - Field Mods is responsible for projects of average scope and complexity; often with little or no supervision for extended periods; including frequent interaction with internal associates, external customers, and suppliers. Primary focus includes Aftermarket machine design packages applying existing technology used within the company. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- The primary deliverables of the Aftermarket Electrical Engineering team include control concepts, software development, electrical schematics, pneumatic drawings, and documentation that support the following functions:
- PLC and HMI system design (operational strategy, controller specification, I/O selection and assignment, software application development)
- Control system hardware selection and schematic design (electrical bill of material, cable and wire labels, phenolic tags, floor plan information)
- Electrical enclosure and industrial control panel design (device layout, raceway sizing, cooling calculations, utility requirements)
- Electrical assembly, installation, and integration documentation (line control strategy, connectivity, and interlocks necessary for project assembly, installation, commissioning, and service)
- Able to create controls software packages (PLC, HMI, and coordinated motion), electrical schematics, and pneumatic drawing packages using existing technology used within the company
- Able to operate, program, and troubleshoot all machine controls including hardware (set-up, adjustment, and replacement of components, controls, and electro-mechanical devices) and software (PLC, HMI, and coordinated motion)
- Reviews, understands, and follows the design criteria outlined in the machine specification documents, including mechanical criteria that may affect the electrical and/or pneumatic design
- Follows all Douglas electrical standards including engineering and assembly standards, national codes (NEC, NFPA79 and UL508A), and any other applicable standards and codes
- Maintains project schedules and completes assigned projects within allocated hours
- Travels to customer sites to for pre-sale visits, design reviews, and/or to resolve machine installation or commissioning problems
- Interacts in a professional manner with internal associates, external customers, and suppliers to support all assigned projects throughout their design, manufacture, build, validation, and commissioning phases
- Identifies opportunities for cost reductions and quality improvements in equipment

- Strong creativity and problem solving skills

- Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) experience preferred
- Computer Aided Design/Drafting (CAD) experience preferred
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Requires one of the following:
- Requires an A.A. degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, and a minimum of 4 years work experience in a related field
- Requires a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
