Controller / VP of Finance

Real Estate Investment | High-Growth Platform | Path to CFO

A fast-growing, vertically integrated real estate investment and development firm is seeking a Controller / VP of Finance to lead all financial operations across both the corporate and property levels. This is a high-impact leadership role with direct exposure to executive decision-making and a clear path to CFO as the firm continues to scale.

This individual will bring structure and strategy to a dynamic environment, implementing financial systems and processes that support growth while serving as a key partner to senior leadership. The ideal candidate has deep real estate experience—preferably multifamily—and is comfortable building from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all corporate and property-level accounting, including intercompany transactions and GAAP reporting

• Manage monthly close processes, financial statements, AP, and fund disbursements

• Establish and maintain internal controls and accounting policies

Cash Management & Treasury

• Monitor liquidity across multiple entities

• Develop and manage 30/60/90-day cash forecasts and capital deployment strategy

• Maintain banking relationships and optimize working capital

Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic Support

• Own corporate budgeting and forecasting processes

• Support asset-level FP&A in coordination with operations and asset management

• Deliver financial insights to inform strategic planning and capital decisions

Acquisitions & Onboarding

• Oversee financial integration of newly acquired assets

• Review closing statements, establish opening balance sheets, and manage reconciliations

Tax, Audit & Compliance

• Coordinate with external tax and audit partners

• Ensure compliance with GAAP, lender covenants, and investor requirements

• Oversee risk management and regulatory filings

Systems Implementation & Process Improvement

• Lead adoption and optimization of financial systems (Yardi experience preferred)

• Drive automation and operational efficiency across reporting, AP, and forecasting

• Maintain data integrity across systems and departments

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with operations, HR, and capital projects teams

• Provide financial guidance across business units and partner with executive leadership

Qualifications

• CPA required; Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance (MBA preferred)

• 10–15 years of experience, ideally within real estate investment or development

• Strong command of Excel; Yardi or similar system experience strongly preferred

• Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to build, lead, and execute
