Job Summary:

The Controller manages Sendero Energy Services' day-to-day financial operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, excellent analytical and communication skills, and a track record of successful financial management.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Oversight & Reporting

  • Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable regulations.
  • Manage monthly and year-end close processes and prepare consolidated financial statements for JCP and affiliated entities.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports to monitor performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Review financial statements with ownership, providing clarity and actionable insights.
  • Well versed in corporate tax policies including state sales and use tax.
  • Establish and maintain proper monthly job costing accruals.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic Planning

  • Lead the development of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts in collaboration with ownership and department heads.
  • Track performance against budget and forecast, providing variance analysis and recommendations.
  • Monitor and forecast cash flow to ensure liquidity requirements are met and provide strategic recommendations for cash management.

Job Cost & Project Financial Management

  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of construction contract cost and revenue schedules.
  • Lead and coordinate the monthly job cost reporting process in partnership with project managers.
  • Create and update Work-In-Progress (WIP) reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate project-level tracking of cost-to-complete and earned revenue.

Accounts Receivable & Payables

  • Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of progress billings in accordance with contract terms.
  • Review AR aging reports regularly and lead collection efforts.
  • Supervise the vendor and subcontractor payment process, ensuring all lien waivers are properly collected and maintained.

Payroll & Cash Management

  • Monitor daily cash balances and ensure adequate coverage for payroll and payables.
  • Review and decide Positive Pay transactions.
  • Oversee the distribution of weekly payroll to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure payroll processes adhere to regulatory requirements as applicable.

Team Supervision & Collaboration

  • Directly supervise one/two finance staff members, including providing training, support, performance feedback, and development.
  • Foster collaboration with operations, estimating, and project management teams to ensure financial transparency and efficiency.
  • Act as the primary liaison with banks, auditors, bonding and insurance companies, and other external partners.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or related field required; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years in finance/accounting roles with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity, preferably in civil or heavy construction.
  • Proficient in construction-specific accounting, including WIP schedules, job costing, and progress billings.
  • Experience with construction ERP/accounting software.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • High attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities under deadlines.
