Towson University fosters a climate that is grounded in respect to cultivate the intellectual and personal growth of the entire university community.The Controller will have management responsibility over Towson's financial accounting and operations, including development of semiannual and annual financial statements, internal and external reporting, inventory and plant accounting, capital projects management, accounting policies and procedures, general ledger reconciliation and audit management, grant accounting compliance and reporting. In addition, this position will play a major role in supporting and maintaining the University's automated financial accounting system (Oracle Cloud Financials). This position will handle the accuracy and completeness of the organization's accounting to be in accordance with GAAP/GASB and the NACUBO FARM Manual. The Controller will ensure that internal controls are in place, enforced, and reviewed for conformance to accounting and financial standards and applicable regulations. Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.Responsibilities And Duties
- Oversee the activities of the Accounting Department for timely and accurate maintenance of the general ledger and financial management reporting.
- Develop and maintain financial management systems and internal controls required to ensure that University assets are safeguarded and that accounts are appropriately maintained to ensure accurate financial data.
- Oversee Financial Accounting & GAAP/GASB reporting to include managing the University's external audit and financial reporting process; managing the periodic internal financial reporting process of the University; monitoring and reconciling all University asset and liability accounts.
- Overall responsibility for the management of capital and fixed assets from a finance perspective.
- Provide information and support to finance and senior management as required.
- Financial reporting which includes the preparation of the University's Financial Statements, taxation, IPEDS and other required financial reports and information.
- Compile, analyze and review the preparation and accuracy of all financial statement reports and schedules. Manage and create all required documentation for audit review regarding financial statements and related financial processes.
- Responsible for the analysis, reporting and accuracy of financial data related to IPEDS reports, the proper classification/depreciation of fixed assets and capital projects, 1099 reporting, grant and financial aid draws.
- Hire, train, evaluate, counsel, motivate and develop staff. Establish individual and unit goals in alignment with the Administration & Finance and University's strategic plan.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of related experience.
Preferred
- Master's degree.
- CPA.
- Experience with a complex ERP system in a large organization environment.
- Higher Education Experience.
Salary and BenefitsTargeted salary range of $150,000-$175,000 annually and full University benefits that include 22 days of annual leave, up to 15 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.
