Job Description :

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the firm's financial operations and ensuring that all accounting and billing functions are executed efficiently and accurately. This role provides strategic financial oversight, monitors day-to-day activities in the Accounting and Billing Departments, and ensures that the firm meets its financial goals and budgetary requirements. The Controller reports to the Chief Operating and Financial Officer and manages a team of nine, including an Assistant Controller and a Collections & Billing Coordinator.

After a set period, this position is eligible for one remote workday per week.

Requirements

  • Direct and supervise all general accounting functions, including the chart of accounts, general ledger, accounts receivable, cash receipts, fixed assets, member compensation and capital, petty cash, bank reconciliations, and client trust funds.
  • Oversee all billing processes and procedures, including electronic billing, new client matter intake, and collections.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard firm assets and ensure accurate financial reporting and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor cash flow and manage daily cash operations, including lines of credit and borrowing, as directed.
  • Manage relationships with banks and other external financial partners.
  • Develop and enforce policies and procedures for all accounting-related functions.
  • Conduct financial reviews in collaboration with the firm's CPA and assist with the preparation and filing of the firm's annual tax return.
  • Lead the preparation of the annual budget in coordination with department heads.
  • Ensure timely filing of all local, state, and federal tax reports.
  • Perform other duties and special projects assigned by firm leadership.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a multi-state law firm or professional services environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial reporting, accounting standards, and budgeting practices.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; familiarity with Windows-based accounting systems.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.

The salary range is $137,000 - $175,000
