We partner with cities and private entities across the U.S. to improve public infrastructure through patented technology, process innovation, and data-driven decision-making.We are seeking a full-time Controller to take ownership of the internal accounting and financial operations across multiple entities. You'll report directly to the CFO (a company owner) and will be responsible for managing financial systems, compliance, reporting, and all back-office finance functions. This is a high-visibility role with the opportunity to step into broader financial leadership as the company scales.Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Financial OperationsLead accounting and bookkeeping across a multi-entity structureMaintain and reconcile general ledger, AR/AP, WIP, inventory, credit cards, and bank accountsOversee monthly close process and internal financial reportingReconcile intercompany true-ups across business entities, including quarterly PIM-PSS allocationsManage fixed asset records and depreciationSupport the year-end review and tax process with external accountantsIssue 1099s and oversee sales tax filings and monthly franchise revenue reportingPayroll & HR SupportProcess bi-weekly and off-cycle payroll (via TriNet)Onboard new employees (I-9s, internal processes)Coordinate with HR systems and assist with complianceOversee Certified Payroll review and approval for prevailing wage projectsMonitor HR complianceCompliance & Corporate GovernanceMaintain city/state registrations, business licenses, and DMV filingsMonitor and file property taxes, franchise taxes, estimated payments, and annual reportsCoordinate K-1 distributions and investor tax filingsEnsure full corporate compliance across all legal entitiesManage insurance audits and assist with claims as neededTrack and renew contractor licenses, bonding, and SAM.gov registrationEnsure Clean Hands certifications and similar compliance documents are filed as required by local jurisdictionsHandle miscellaneous paperwork and manage inbound financial or compliance-related correspondenceFinancial Strategy & AnalysisPrepare cash flow reports, budget-to-actuals, and financial dashboardsAssist with pricing reviews and financial forecastingProvide ad hoc reporting and trend analysis for company leadershipLead quarterly financial review prep and custom insightsSystems & Process OptimizationMaintain and improve accounting software (QuickBooks, Bill.com) and integrations with internal platformsCollaborate with internal teams on automation (e.g., job costing, payroll tracking, dashboarding)Improve documentation, internal controls, and process workflowsImplement fraud prevention and risk mitigation strategiesVendor & Contract OversightManage AP process and vendor recordsOversee contracts and lead the contract review process, coordinating with legal counsel when neededTrack certificates of insurance (COIs) and renewal timelinesQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA strongly preferred5–10 years experience in small business accounting or Controller-level financeHands-on experience with QuickBooks and Bill.comFamiliarity with TriNet or similar payroll/HR platformsProven track record managing multi-entity financials and complianceStrong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsSelf-starter mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environmentBonus: experience managing legal filings, contract review, or franchise/reporting structuresWork Environment & Growth OpportunityWhile the role can begin with flexibility, the responsibilities are full-time in scope.
