David creates tools to increase muscle and decrease fat. Our first product is a protein bar. More broadly, David is a platform to develop high-protein, low-calorie, blood-sugar-friendly foods that are craveable.

Role and Responsibilities:

The Controller will oversee all accounting, financial reporting, and audit functions at David, ensuring accurate and timely reporting as the business scales. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role is critical to maintaining a strong financial foundation. Strong reporting, accurate systems, and timely payment collections support strategic decision-making across the organization.

Accounting and Financial Reporting & Analysis:

  • Own the Company's monthly financial close process, executing proper transaction categorization, journal entries, and reports.
  • Create quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements.
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting responsibilities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, transaction categorization, revenue reconciliation, COGS, and inventory.
  • Support budget and forecasting process, including preparation of summary analysis of performance versus budget and forecast.
  • Provide accounting guidance to cross-functional partners on upcoming operational initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leadership, department heads, and external stakeholders to provide financial insights and support decision-making.

Systems and Controls:

  • Lead and coordinate implementation of NetSuite across key business functions.
  • Identify opportunities for system efficiencies and improvements, leading implementation of changes where necessary.
  • Help establish and evolve accounting and control policies as we scale.
  • Ensure compliance with procedures observing SOX and GAAP requirements.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 7+ years of accounting experience in a similar role
  • Experience in CPG manufacturing
  • CPA (strongly preferred)
  • Experience working in NetSuite (strongly preferred)
  • Experience implementing NetSuite or another ERP (preferred)
  • Excitement to recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing accounting team
  • Strong sense of ownership and meticulous attention to detail
  • High IQ/intellectual horsepower
  • Self-starting attitude with a love for executing on ideas and moving quickly
  • Humble, self-aware, and curious
  • Desire to help build an early-stage CPG company with a mission to create tools to increase muscle and decrease fat

Practicalities & Benefits:

  • This is a full-time, in-office role based in New York City. We work onsite five days a week — when the culture fits, it is fun to be in the office together.
  • Salary: $175 - $200K per year, inclusive of cash bonus based on attainment of company targets.
