Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity, and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Salary Range

$106,300.00 - $175,400.00

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers is seeking a Consulting Technology Engineer (CICS/IMS Systems Programmer) to join our organization as we grow and transform our technology landscape. In this technical individual contributor role on the Realtime Support team, the individual will be responsible for all aspects of evaluation, configuration, security, implementation, and support of CICS, IMS, z/OS Connect, TPX, CA GEN, EOS, and other software for multiple business groups. The ideal candidate will have experience with installing, migrating, supporting, and troubleshooting IMS, CICS, and z/OS Connect.

Under limited supervision, demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of activities related to engineering support, installation, and operations of infrastructure technologies. Plans at a tactical level and manages the effective use of technology resources for projects and functions. May direct project staff to design, develop, and implement large, complex technology solutions supporting various business and technology areas. Develops and implements solutions involving multiple platforms, databases, and tools. Facilitates or participates in database system design and development. Must be able to multi-task in a dynamic environment. This role may provide technology leadership to others.

What Will You Do?
  • Adhere to Travelers change management processes regarding change windows, lead times, ServiceNow requests, and access escalation.
  • Understand Travelers' business groups and products to support business needs and CICS/IMS regions.
  • Consult with business and technology teams on application development, new features, proof of concepts, and security.
  • Attend and sometimes lead monthly meetings with IBM and ISV regarding product roadmaps and incidents.
  • Connect CICS & IMS to other technologies such as MQ and DB2, configure z/OS Connect for API deployment, and enable remote access for CICS and IMS.
  • Develop and test high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Occasional weekend and after-hours on-call support.
  • Develop operational plans aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Drive departmental and corporate programs.
  • Leverage infrastructure technology to develop or redesign solutions.
  • Build and maintain effective alliances within the technical and business communities.
  • Interact with customers for effective results.
  • Prioritize tasks according to business needs and system availability.
  • Serve as a technical expert within the service delivery organization and consult across teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • Knowledge of SMP/E software installation, PTF analysis, and maintenance migrations.
  • Understanding of CICS and IMS parameters, internals, and performance optimization.
  • Ability to create and migrate CICS and IMS regions and transaction definitions.
  • Supporting knowledge of z/OS Connect, TPX, CA GEN, EOS, and related ISV software is a plus.
  • Seven years of technology experience preferred.
  • Two years of technical lead experience preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of infrastructure technologies such as Networking, Databases, Servers, Storage.
  • Expertise in foundational IT infrastructure, Operating Systems, and software.
  • Familiarity with process discipline and IDLC methodology.
What is a Must Have?
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience, plus five years in technology.
  • Alternatively, Master's degree in CS or related field with three years of experience.
