Consultant in Community Paediatrics - 10 PAs

As a Community Paediatrician, you'll play a vital role in supporting children and families across our local area. You'll work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and other agencies to assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of developmental and physical health needs in children from birth to adolescence.

Main duties of the job

Duties of the Post

  • Assess children with developmental problems and neurodisability
  • Contribute to holistic multidisciplinary and multiagency management plans. This will include some children and young people in special schools.
  • Ensure that the Trust is compliant with SEND legislation and with the spirit of the Code of Practice
  • Ensure that robust processes are in place for identification, assessment, planning and health support for children and young people with SEND
  • Attend monthly SEND Operational group meetings
  • Provide medical advice as part of the EHC needs assessment process
  • Carry out Initial Health Assessments for Cared for Children
  • Work with clinical colleagues and managers.
  • There may be a requirement to support S47 medicals. These are currently carried out in the hospital setting by the neonatal hot week consultant during the day or the on call consultant, out of hours.

Qualifications
  • MB ChB or equivalent
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligible for inclusion within 6 months of interview date
Experience
  • Ability to demonstrate having achieved the competencies equivalent to Higher Specialist Paediatric Training including usually 3 years in Community Child Health (usually after 5 years of Higher Specialist Training in total).
  • Experience in a wide range of Community Child Health conditions including assessment and management of children with Neurodisability, SEND, social communication disorders, child mental health, public health.
  • Experience in Child Protection to the level appropriate for consultant practice (Level 3)
  • Excellent communication skills - both oral and written.
  • Experience of team working
  • Clear commitment to lifelong learning
  • Effective teaching skills
  • Ability to organise workload, prioritise, delegate responsibly and supervise staff
  • Experience of working as SEND Lead/DMO
  • Experience of working at strategic level
  • Specific training in communication skills
  • Educational qualification or working towards
Skills
  • Ability to motivate and inspire a multi-disciplinary team and work sensitively within teams and across organisations
