Purpose of Activity/Assignment:

The overarching aim of this consultancy is to support the analysis and benchmarking for the SDGs related to children as part of the development of the report “Progress on Children's Well-Being”, including the life-course index. The work involves using GitHub, our database, and collaborating with sectoral data managers/analysts in D&A. The consultant will work on country briefs/factsheets based on the report and will enhance and automate the existing R-based workflow to generate standardized factsheets and charts across countries.

The consultant will write syntax, maintain the GitHub repository, and support the publication process in collaboration with the PEG team, ensuring the code and documentation support long-term scalability and reproducibility.

Scope of Work

The Consultant will:

  • Contribute to analysis for the “Progress on Children's Well-Being” report:
    • Data Analysis: Expand analysis for the report, including disaggregation/equity and the Life course index.
    • Workflow Development: Create an automated workflow for graphs and figures, ensuring code is well-annotated and published on GitHub.

    Produce country factsheets from benchmarking analysis and the Life-course index using R, maintaining GitHub repositories, and generating findings.

  • Finalization: Publish the updated workflow on GitHub with documentation and a user guide.
  • Terms of Reference / Deliverables
    • Benchmarking analysis for the report by September 30, 2025.
    • Workflow creation by October 30, 2025.
    • Maintain GitHub repository by October 30, 2025.
    • Syntax for factsheet production (benchmarking) by September 15, 2025.
    • Syntax for Life-Course Index factsheets by September 30, 2025.
    • Publish workflow and documentation by October 30, 2025.
    Qualifications

    (1) Education: Master's degree in Economics, Sociology, Statistics, Education, or related fields.

    (2) Skills and Experience:

    • Proficiency in data analysis with R; familiarity with Stata/SPSS is an advantage.
    • Experience with GitHub and reproducible research techniques.
    • Knowledge of social sector data sources.
    • Experience managing data projects.
    • Ability to produce high-quality reports and presentations.
    • At least one year of experience in statistical analysis of social or economic data.
    Requirements
    • Completed profile in UNICEF's e-Recruitment system.
    • Upload academic credentials and a financial proposal.
    • Availability for the duration of the contract.
