Construction Technician I - City of Charleston, SC : Job Details

Annual Salary:$43,797.00 - $46,858.50Hourly:$22.46 - $24.03Department:Culture & Recreation, Maintenance & TradesDivision:ConstructionFLSA:Non-ExemptJob Description:In this role, you will perform construction maintenance tasks on all City owned facilities and operations.Examples of Duties:* Performs construction repairs on various types of facilities and equipment.* Operates specialized equipment and tools related to the trade discipline.* Requisitions or purchases supplies and equipment.* Performs a variety of manual duties using various tools depending upon the assigned crew.* Assists in removing, pouring and finishing cement sidewalks and curbing.* Assists in laying brick, cinder block, bluestone, Belgium Block and other special construction materials.* Cuts, removes and replaces asphalt streets.* Cuts, repairs and lays concrete, drainage pipes and/or drainage catch basins.* Assists in maintaining and repairing playground equipment and installing and repairing fences.* Drives a pickup truck to deliver tools, materials, equipment, etc.* Assists in taking measurements of the worksite and in deciding quantities and types of material and equipment needed.* Works extended hours, as necessary, during shutdowns of equipment and/or buildings.* Performs other duties as assigned.Basic Qualifications:* Highschool diploma/GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience.* Valid South Carolina driver's license.* Ability to perform work order management through smart phone, tablet and/or computer.Preferred Qualifications:* 1 year of related experience.Other Necessary Requirements:* May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled* In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City's needs.The City of Charleston is firmly committed to Equal Employment Opportunity ( EEOC) as a fundamental policy to be implemented and observed in our daily operation.
