Performs manual work in the construction and maintenance of public works facilities.
Essential FunctionsInstall and repair water meters, water, and wastewater lines; Assist in the operation of specialized equipment in cleaning and inspecting sewer lines and sewer taps; Clean and repair manholes; raise and lower manholes and meter boxes; Will occasionally operate hydraulic or pneumatic power tools, and lighter construction equipment, i.e.; skid steer; Order parts and supplies; clean, repair, and test meters; Assist in scheduling routine vehicle and equipment maintenance; Assist in setting up proper traffic control devices in work areas; Assist in the operation, inspection and maintenance of all city roadways; Keep a daily log of oil levels in equipment; Performs related duties as directed.
QualificationsCompletion of a high school diploma or equivalent with an additional six months experience in construction or maintenance; or any relevant combination of education and experience which provides the following:

Water: Critical Infrastructure: This position has been determined to have close contact with, or control of Critical Infrastructure components. This position is subject to extensive background checks and random drug screening.
Knowledge of: The types and uses of hand tools and equipment for construction and maintenance; Methods used to construct and maintain a variety of public works.
Ability to: Perform manual tasks requiring physical strength and endurance; Follow oral and written instructions; Communicate effectively with others; Operate heavy equipment and other equipment such as Hydrocleaner, Vacuum truck, (CCTV and SCBA units - Wastewater Collection only).
Physical Requirements: Frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds. Wastewater Collection - frequently lift and carry up to 80 pounds. Frequently walk and stand during the shift. Frequently bend and kneel during the shift. Push and pull objects. Continuously flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees. Continuously rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing. Reach above, at, or below shoulder height. Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
