Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center is a non-profit organization that provides an array of comprehensive mental health services for Children, Adolescents, Transitional Aged Youth, and Adults suffering from mental illness in the Greater Los Angeles area. The organization consists of a standalone fifty-five (55)-bed hospital and six outlying outpatient facilities that have anywhere from fourteen (14) beds to one hundred and thirty-four (134) beds. The organization has approximately four hundred (400) employees.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Community Services Manager serves as a member of the management team and oversees the work of the Home Visit Counselors and Case Managers to ensure all services are provided in line with contractual requirements of the Department of State Hospitals. This role also involves being a liaison to residential facilities, benefits and medical resources in the community, urinalysis labs, transportation providers, and other Gateways Hospital departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Overseeing the work of the Home Visit Counselors and Case Managers, which includes recruiting, training, evaluating performance, coaching, and implementing disciplinary action as warranted.
  • Ensuring thorough home visits are conducted in line with contract requirements.
  • Acting as a liaison with all residential facility administrators to ensure open communication and collaboration regarding clients' residential placements.
  • Identifying appropriate residential placements for incoming clients and ensuring thorough and updated referral packets.
  • Intervening in a timely manner to address residential concerns and engaging in problem solving with relevant staff, clients, and community partners.
  • Exploring additional community-based residential resources.
  • Staying informed on changes and trends in community-based residential services.
  • Ensuring Case Managers link clients to relevant community-based resources in a timely manner.
  • Overseeing the random urinalysis schedule and practices.
  • Acting as a liaison with the urinalysis lab for procedural challenges.
  • Monitoring urinalysis findings daily.
  • Ensuring vehicles meet safety standards and collaborating with Engineering staff.
  • Conducting routine quality assurance reviews of the electronic health record.
  • Providing relevant treatment team members with clear and comprehensive information.
  • Approving timecards and time-off requests.
  • Conducting performance reviews in line with agency requirements.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATES

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, business, social work, criminal justice, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of experience in corrections, mental health, social services, residential facilities, or substance abuse treatment.
  • Two years of successful management or supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite, web browsers, HRIS software, and electronic health records.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Organizational abilities, including identifying priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to represent the agency professionally to outside agencies and community-based stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals with severe mental illnesses and substance abuse issues.
  • Ability to set and maintain boundaries with clients and staff.
  • Ability to cope with emotionally stressful situations.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must pass DOJ, FBI, and CCL background clearance.
  • Valid California Driver's license.
  • TB clearance.
  • Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier.
  • Fire and Safety Training.
  • First Aid Training Certification.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI).

*Note: If indicated certifications/licenses are lacking, they must be obtained within 180 days of hire.

**Training needs to be completed within 30 days from the date of hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • To perform this job you must be able to carry out all essential functions successfully.
  • Employee will be required to lift and/or move unassisted up to 25 pounds.
