Incumbents may be assigned to the field services, administrative services, or investigative services division.The ideal candidate has experience working with the public as part of a law enforcement agency and has exceptional customer service and stress management skills. The ideal candidate is a team player who works well with others and demonstrates strong, independent decision-making skills to find the best solutions possible when attending to calls. They exercise a high-level of judgement and discretion, maintain confidentiality, and act with integrity.DefinitionTo perform a wide variety of non-sworn law enforcement support duties within the Beverly Hills Police Department. Incumbents may be assigned to the field services, administrative services, or investigative services division.Supervision Received and ExercisedReceives general supervision from a Police Sergeant or higher level sworn classification.Selection ProcessAll applicants must submit clear, concise, and complete information regarding their qualifications for the position, including responses to all supplemental questions. Background Check The final step of the selection process requires a thorough police background investigation. The background investigation will include a comprehensive investigation of the candidate's background which includes, Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background check, education and employment history (including a credit, criminal and DMV review), personal statement, employment and personal reference check. Additionally, all eligible candidates will undergo a medical examination (including a drug screen). Conclusion Verification: Applicants may be required to submit verification of qualifying education and experience at any point during the recruitment and selection process. Note: Falsifying one's education, training, or work experience or attempted deception on the application may result in disqualification for this and future job opportunities with the City of Beverly Hills.Disaster Service Workers: All City of Beverly Hills employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency. Major DutiesEXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Depending on assigned area of responsibility, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:Assist the public by providing a variety of general information, responding to inquiries, and wayfinding.Assist sworn personnel to conduct preliminary investigations of traffic accidents, crimes, and other incidents.Prepare police reports and complete forms e.g. crime lab request forms, high tech request forms, and stolen property forms.Assist sworn personnel with vehicle impound requests.Perform traffic control and non-violent crowd control activities at events and during emergency situations at the direction of a Police Sergeant or higher level sworn classification.Assist in the collection, preservation, transportation and booking of evidence and property.Perform public counter duties e.g. respond to the public at the counter and over the phone, provide general information, complete select reports, and enter and retrieve data pertaining to property and inmates.May issue parking citations to vehicles parked in violation of state, and local law.May respond to and investigate reported violations of the municipal code related to smoking regulations in public areas, sidewalk vending, and other related nuisances in designated areas.Assists in the storage, placement and removal, inventory, auditing and release of property and evidence.Operates law enforcement equipment e.g. radios, mobile data terminals, cameras, and fingerprinting systems.Operate a marked police vehicles safely under varying weather conditions.Assist new or existing staff in learning departmental practices and protocols, methods, and procedures.Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect.Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication.Perform related duties as assigned. Minimum QualificationsExperience and Training:Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:Experience:One year of paid work experience involving heavy public contact is desirable.Training:Completion of twelfth grade or equivalent.Must be a United States citizen, or a lawful permanent resident, at the time of application.License and Certificate:Possession of a valid California driver's license.
