Position Description This position is responsible to build out, improve, manage day to day operations, and work collaboratively across all enterprise efforts that intersect with community safety. This work will focus on community safety, specifically violence prevention, supporting community, residents, and businesses, and improving community safety overall in Minneapolis. Salary Anticipated starting salary for this position is: $105,497 - 123,415, depending on qualifications. Work Location This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work with some days working remotely and some days working in the office. *The City of Minneapolis does not sponsor applicants for work visas. Job Duties and Responsibilities Manage Department initiatives that address specific areas of concerns., specifically community safety including violence prevention; and initiate a response to enterprise-wide initiatives as appropriate. ?? Coordinate programming and strategies with staff to identify and plan for ways to increase outreach and response to residents, community partners? Assist the Deputy Director in managing priority initiatives and projects both internal and external to the Department. ? Coordinate the Department's liaison activities with other departments and agencies (e.g., Park Board, CPED, MPD, Hennepin County, etc.). ?? Coordinate communication strategies to educate and inform the public and other stakeholders about program and enterprise goals, policies and programs concerning community safety activities ? Participate in development and ongoing maintenance of department business plan and connect operations and measures to the business plan. ?? Represent departmentswhere assigned for enterprise initiatives, including intergovernmental relations projects, City Council Committees and outward-facing engagement opportunities. ? Research, monitor and disseminate up-to-date strategies and practices for violence prevention, including crime prevention, to community, partners, Neighborhood & Community Relations staff, and other city departments and staff.? Participate on cross-departmental work teams to complete multi-department projects, share Information, improve City-wide systems, and enhance community relationships related to community safety.? Coordinate across the NSDleadership team, to work collaboratively with all NSD staff and to align and leverage all staff? Manage staff, including hiring, supervising, supporting, identify training and ongoing support, manage workplans and expectations? Build a team environment that supports collaboration, centers serving community, and prioritizes communities that historically are disproportionately impacted by livability issues and concerns? Provide input on department business plan and budgets? Develop and/or review training and support materials for city staff and community and residents that further the city's commitment and the latest approaches to address violence prevention Work with NSD staff and other city staff to develop accessible communication and updated and timely information regarding the city's efforts on violence prevention Provide periodic reports to the public regarding violence prevention efforts. WORKING CONDITIONS:?? Office environment. Requires travel throughout City. Required Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION:?? Bachelor's Degree with coursework in community safety, community engagement, civic engagement, civil rights, cultural studies, anthropology, human services, public health, urban and regional planning, law enforcement, political science, community-led safety organizing or equivalent.? MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: At least five years of related experience?managing multiple teams, working collaboratively between government and community sector, managing programs, supervising staff, demonstrated mix of various responsibilities including program management, supervisory experience, vision setting, change management, collaboration skills, racial equity experience, community organizing, program development. Equivalency An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered. Selection Process The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%). Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process. Background Check The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position. Background Check (Police) The City has determined that a thorough Minneapolis Police Department criminal background check is necessary for positions with this job title. Drug and Alcohol Testing All job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made. Applicants will be required to sign a notification and consent form prior to undergoing drug and alcohol testing. Applicants who do not consent to undergo drug and alcohol testing will not be required to do so and the City will withdraw the conditional job offer, resulting in the job applicant no longer being considered for the position. Union Representation This position is NOT represented by a collective bargaining agreement between the City of Minneapolis.: Eligible List Statement The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire one month after it has been established. Interview Selection The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.
