Title: Community Impact Operations ManagerBusiness Unit: Sobrato PhilanthropiesWork Schedule: HybridStatus: Full-timeFSLA Status: ExemptWork Location: Castro HQ (Mountain View, CA)Date Submitted: June 2025Job SummaryReporting to the Vice President, Community Impact & Systems Change, the Community Impact Operations Manager (Manager) is a key program strategy and operations role on the team, supporting planning, seamless execution of program implementation, alignment across stakeholders, team cohesion, and administrative activities of the program team. The Manager organizes the program leadership team (VP and Directors) with routine and semi-routine strategic and administrative activities in multiple planning and programmatic implementation phases; program staff and broader external partner engagement; research, summary reports, and analysis.This position provides regular analysis of various data to inform, assist and make recommendations to the Vice President on:

  • The execution of quarterly and annual program goals across the regional, statewide and national influence work
  • Opportunities and challenges to consider in the philanthropic and nonprofit sector, especially in the core issue areas – economic mobility, housing security, educational equity and climate action
  • Operational challenges and program team dynamics
  • Departmental expenditures
  • Policies and procedures compliance
The individual will set program leadership and team agendas, draft correspondence, prepare meeting summaries and presentations for the senior and executive leadership teams and governance members, and communicate with grantees and other external partners. The Manager monitors the program team's work plans and scorecards, coordinates team meetings, supports special events, and provides administrative support to the VP and director team.The position requires adaptiveness; effective communication; research, analytical, and data synthesis skills; strong planning and organizing; a proactive approach to multi-tasking, and teamwork to manage goals and execute tasks and projects. This position requires discretion, thoughtful and transparent communications, and stakeholder engagement, including governance members, staff, grantees, and community partners. The Manager will demonstrate curiosity, humility, and eagerness to learn and be driven by the mission of Sobrato Philanthropies, excited to gain experience in philanthropy while positively impacting the community.Responsibilities And TasksJob Responsibility 1: Program Support40% of Time:
  • Conducts research on initiatives and projects related to SP issue areas (Economic Mobility, Housing Security, Educational Equity, Climate Action), including landscape scans; impact, financial and demographic data; and grantee/investee information.
  • Supports Program Director team in developing, modeling and codifying the team's approach to investments relative to impact, including in the areas of grants, impact investments, and Social Purpose Real Estate (affordable housing and nonprofit/below-market commercial space).
  • Provides project management at the SP program-wide level for monitoring, evaluation, and learning initiatives; community engagement; convenings and site visits.
  • Supports the Vice President in emerging community needs and opportunities through relationship management, site visits, convenings, research, and data collection and analysis.
  • Contributes issue area expertise, perspectives, relationship-building skills, and lived experiences to strengthen program implementation and community engagement.
Job Responsibility 2: Operations Management40% of Time:
  • Supports with the development, coordination and ongoing tracking of department goals
  • Manages program-wide workflows and coordinates deadlines to ensure deliverables are met on schedule. Identifies and evaluated methods for improving workflows.
  • Works with the Vice President and the Director of Strategy and Governance in the execution of curating content and streamlining processes for decision-making for the Executive Leadership Team, Senior Leadership Team and governance bodies, including packets, memos, presentations and approval documents.
  • Meets regularly with the Vice President concerning department workflows and department management challenges.
  • Oversees coordination and monitoring of the program department budget, acting as a liaison with the Finance and Operations team.
  • Provide administrative support to the program team (VP and Directors), including meeting logistics, calendar management, administrative projects, research, and data entry (e.g., Fluxx, Asana) as needed.
  • Coordinate external consultants and vendors under the guidance of the Vice President as needed.
  • Manages discrete projects on an ad hoc basis related to program team needs as needed.
Job Responsibility 4: Team Cohesion and Internal Engagement Support10% of Time:
  • Builds collaborative and positive working relationships and effective communication channels with team members and staff.
  • Acts as a program department liaison with other departments to identify and implement solutions that help operate more effectively (Finance and Operations, HR, Communications, Family Philanthropy Services).
  • Supports cross-team and cross-enterprise (Philanthropy, Real Estate, and Capital) collaboration and workflows as needed.
  • Works alongside the Vice President to develop meeting structures and content that promote strategic alignment, learning, and a strong team culture.
  • Assists with content development and curation for team-building activities and staff development initiatives.
  • Supports with the development, curation and coordination of program-team offsites, meetings and learning engagements.
Job Responsibility 3: Communications and External Engagement5% of Time:
  • Act as the primary program-wide communications liaison with the SP Director of Governance and Strategy, including preparing meeting agendas and tracking communication-related tasks.
  • Plan, develop, and coordinate content for programmatic communications (e.g., newsletters, social media, blogs, reports, announcements).
  • Oversee program team's social media engagement, partner content monitoring, and content curation in collaboration with the communications team.
  • Maintain and update public-facing databases (e.g., Groupsite, Workplace, Fluxx).
  • Respond to general email and website inquiries related to the programs and funding requests.
Other Responsibilities As Assigned5% of Time:
  • Coordinates special projects as assigned.
Qualifications (know How)Education / Training
  • Minimum bachelor's degree required or equivalent combination of education and work experience in the philanthropic, nonprofit, education, and/or public sector.
Experience/Technical Skills
  • 5 years of experience in managing projects and/or departments
  • Working with Executive Leadership and governance bodies
  • 3-5 years of experience in philanthropy, nonprofit program implementation, and/or administrative duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex workflows, juggle multiple priorities, and anticipate team needs in a dynamic environment.
  • Resourceful, takes initiative, anticipates issues and responds appropriately.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with diverse internal and external stakeholders (staff, Board, external relations). Has a high attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize quantitative and qualitative data,
  • Ability to drive key deliverables effectively and efficiently (impact, community, demographic and financial).
  • Ability to be proactive and constantly prioritize responsibilities in a fast-moving and rapidly changing environment.
  • Works well independently and within a team, demonstrating great initiative, flexibility, and collaboration.
  • Experience in event planning, meeting facilitation, or convening.
  • High level of professionalism, diplomacy and discretion with the ability to maintain matters of confidentiality. Exercises good judgment.
  • Welcomes feedback as a means to professional and personal growth.
  • Proficient with database software, website tools, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Office 365 in a Mac environment; familiarity with standard office equipment and phone system.

Compensation And TransparencyAt TSO, base pay is part of a broader compensation package and is set within a range, allowing for growth as you advance in your role. The pay range for this role is between $125,000 and $156,000.Salary offers are determined based on various factors, including experience, education, licensure and/or certifications, internal equity, and specific business and organizational needs.
