The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia supports a vibrant alliance of synagogues, community volunteers and representatives from Jewish community organizations all over Greater Philadelphia through its Kehillot (Hebrew for community or neighborhood). Our Kehillot serve theareas of Bucks County, Buxmont, Center City, Chester County, Delaware County, Lower Merion, Northeast, and Old York Road. These Kehillah works together within geographic areas to create inspired Jewish communities and offer programming and enrichment for all ages.

Our team uses relational engagement, event planning, and the resources of the Jewish Federation and each individual local community to:

  • Create a pipeline of communication and leadership development from a grassroots level to the work of the Jewish Federation
  • Serve individuals and families both connected to organized Jewish institutions and those who are underserved or disconnected
  • Strengthen relationships among institutions, synagogues, and their professional and lay leadership within the community

Each Kehillah supports a vibrant slate of communal gatherings including holiday programming, social action/mitzvah work, and philanthropic opportunities to its constituents.

This position sits within the Leadership and Community Development Department of the Jewish Federation. This person reports to the Director of Community Development, and works cross functionally within the Jewish Federation.

Requirements:

The role of part-time Community Engagement Manager, working 23 hours per week, will support and engage the Buxmont community, which is the string of suburbs along the Bucks County-Montgomery County border. This includes Horsham, Lansdale, Ambler, Plymouth Meeting, and Blue Bell.

The CEM will focus on the following:

  • Relational engagement: Connect with individuals and families within their Kehillah to understand their interests and needs, help them feel like they belong within Jewish community and life, and to serve as a liaison, connecting them to Jewish experiences and institutions, including the Jewish Federation. The CEM is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with community members and volunteers, as well as rabbis, cantors, executives, educators, and all other relevant Jewish community contributors. This also includes a focus on underserved populations throughout our community (ie: Jews of Color, interfaith/multifaith Jews; Russian and Hebrew speaking Jews, Jewish individuals with disabilities, Orthodox Jews, LGBTQ+ Jews, etc).
  • Donor and leader prospecting: CEM maintains a pipeline of prospective donors and leaders for the Jewish Federation and the community at large, taking responsibility for regular follow-ups and forging strong connections with the Jewish community. Each CEM is expected to regularly identify new prospects for this pipeline and to oversee their continued development by making appropriate invitations and introductions, with the ultimate goal of encouraging and fostering donor gifts to support the organization's mission.
  • Leadership development: The CEM oversees a Leadership Team (4-6 leaders) and Coalition (a broad group of committed community representatives) for the Kehillah. This will entail setting a schedule of, planning, and running 4-6 Leadership Team meetings and 2-3 Coalition meetings per year. The CEM is responsible for overseeing the development of strategy and decision making for the budget and calendar of the Kehillah in partnership with their Leadership Team, establishing a succession plan for leadership, and creating engaging content for Coalition meetings to attract and retain maximum participation.
  • Corporate sponsors: In partnership with Fundraising staff, the CEM is responsible for continuously identifying businesses to be solicited for sponsorships.
  • Event support: Work closely with departmental staff on generating ideas for community events. Take the leadership role in organizing committees for events, and attend events when appropriate.
  • Jewish Federation integration and communications: The CEM maintains a steady communications presence within their Kehillah, working closely with the Jewish Federation marketing team to craft and distribute compelling messaging that integrates the goals of the Jewish Federation, the Kehillah, and its partner organizations.

The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list and additional tasks may be assigned to the employee from time to time at Jewish Federation's discretion.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills. Able to get along with and work well with diverse personalities
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask in an environment that requires managing multiple activities and priorities
  • Proven ability to take a project from concept through completion
  • Familiarity with Jewish traditions with the ability to lead Jewish events and connect effectively within the Jewish community
  • Knowledge of Philadelphia and Buxmont Jewish Community preferred
  • Ability to work evenings, occasional Shabbat, holiday, and Sunday events
  • Ability to think strategically, and approach relationships with future development in mind
  • Bachelor's degree or at least 3 years of relevant work experience required
  • Experience building relationships, and overseeing projects as well as the ability to navigate varying opinions and ways of working
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office and social media applications required

Compensation details: 27-33.5 Hourly Wage
