POSITION TITLE: Marketing & Communications Specialist REPORTS TO: Community Education Director Terms Of Employment
- At will employment year round schedule?
- Hourly position Part Time 1000 Hours per year Average 20 hours per week
- Some evening/weekend hours required on occasion
- Salary Range $20-$24 per hour
Description A part-time marketing & communications specialist will design and create essential, timely and sophisticated communications for families, staff, and community. Strong writing, strategic communication, trendy graphic design, and creativity skills are essential to design communication with high visual impact. Website maintenance, social media savvy and videography/photography experience is a plus. You will work on a variety of products, including website, catalog, brochures, flyers, newsletters, logos, and email marketing tools. Primary Responsibilities
- Identify public relations opportunities and design, create, and implement communication plans to achieve communication goals.
- Manage and design seasonal catalogs for Itasca Area Community Education.
- Ensure communication with internal and external stakeholders is consistent, clear, positive, proactive and two-way.
- Coordinate multiple marketing & communication tasks with varying deadlines.
- Write for a variety of audiences, purposes and formats including print/electronic newsletters, websites, news releases, social media, and other materials.
- Create, compile and effectively share news of community events, students, employees, alumni, and school achievements through varied and appropriate channels.
- Occasionally work with freelance graphic designers, videographers and photographers.
- Attend, photograph and report on programs and events for publications, recognition and promotion.
- Develop effective relationships with media, pitch news stories and respond to media requests.
- Create and implement content updates for community education and school websites and social media channels.
- Design graphics/flyers to communicate programs, events, celebrations, and weekly communication items.
- Assist with crisis communications.
- Photography and hands-on video-editing support is ideal but not required.
Qualifications Demonstrated abilities in executing the duties and responsibilities described above. In addition:
- Bachelors degree in graphic design, public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, or related field.
- Prior experience in public relations, graphic design, or communications.
- Experience working in education and/or knowledge of the Itasca Area community preferred.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively.
- Comfortable receiving constructive feedback and edits to communications.
- Relentless in keeping multi-faceted projects advancing on time to meet deadlines.
- Skilled at learning and navigating web content management tools.
- Demonstrated ability with software such as Powerpoint, Google Drive, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Photoshop.
- Must be able to work occasional weekend or evening hours and travel between school buildings as part of the job.
