Suffolk County Government seeks highly motivated Urban Planners and Project Managers to join the Department of Economic Development & Planning. Does related work as required. As a member of the Downtown and Transit-Oriented Development team the primary duties of the position include project management, including the day-to-day management of consultant teams, project deliverables and timelines; grant writing and management; ongoing communication with civic and community organizations; development of a thorough understanding of community needs and goals; and collaboration with local municipalities for technical assistance and project support.
Key Responsibilities:
Demonstrated knowledge in the following subject matters is highly desirable: Urban and traditional neighborhood design, Urban economics, Equity planning frameworks, Transit and transportation planning and policy, Developments in personal and micro mobility, Housing policy and programs, Community and economic development, Environmental justice and the built environment.

This Role Is A Provisional Appointment
A provisional appointment, which occurs only in the competitive class, is a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the position. In order to become permanent, the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position.
