Position Summary

The full-time Communications, Marketing, and Outreach Manager will manage external communications and marketing by developing and implementing innovative strategies, crafting creative youth-engaging messaging, and growing the organization's online presence and network. The Manager will focus on managing day-to-day communications, overseeing social media needs, and executing Girl Be Heard's long-term, strategic communications goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise the updating and strengthening of media/press lists, write press releases, and cultivate relationships with press to cover events and news.
  • Hire and manage freelancers. Run production of all original content for Girl Be Heard, including YouTube videos, photo shoots, artist collaborations, campaigns, and Instagram takeovers.
  • Create and manage a marketing budget. Leverage contacts to generate social media attention and secure pro bono support when appropriate.
  • Guide the Communications Associate in preparing press kits and creating other print and digital marketing collateral.
  • Leverage social media platforms to engage with current events, connect with stakeholders, and attract potential funders and celebrity supporters.
  • Establish and maintain a consistent voice and posting schedule across all social media platforms.
  • Oversee ongoing web content maintenance.
  • Develop and oversee story-driven, data-driven, and impactful print and digital content, including the annual impact report.
  • Monitor online engagement, analyze analytics to refine strategies, and develop reports for staff and board members.
  • Design and implement a communications plan to promote Girl Be Heard events and performances through social media, email marketing, and the website.
  • Develop marketing strategies to increase ticket sales and revenue from events and performances.
  • Liaise with the board of directors' communications committee to approve new marketing materials.
  • Manage logistics for special projects with a design component.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of local and global human rights issues, with a commitment to equity and inclusion respecting differences of race, ethnicity, age, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and socioeconomic background.
  • Passion for youth empowerment work.
  • Inspired by peacebuilding and committed to building a world based on compassion, justice, and love.
  • Highly collaborative, flexible, responsive, positive, and kind.
  • Willing to work outside of normal business hours if necessary.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a flair for social networking language.
  • Extensive knowledge of social media platforms, MailChimp (or similar email marketing tools), Salesforce, Microsoft Office Suite, SquareSpace, and Adobe Creative Suite.
Compensation

Salary range $50,000–$60,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance, paid vacation and holidays, Citibike membership, discounted gym memberships, and pre-tax transit benefits.

Girl Be Heard's mission is to develop, amplify, and celebrate the voices of young women and gender nonconforming youth through socially conscious theatre-making. We create theatre inspired, written, and performed by our participants (ages 12-21) that addresses global and local social issues such as bullying, body image, self-harm, sex trafficking, forced child marriage, and gender-based violence.

Our education curriculum encourages critical thinking about social justice, challenges stereotypes, fosters friendships, and equips participants with tools for community change. Our programs are based in 13 NYC sites.
