Job Title - Senior - Supervising Commissioning Engineer

Location - Charlotte, NC or Atlanta, GA

The Position

Our client, a global leader in consulting, engineering, and commissioning services for highly technical building environments, is seeking a performance-driven Senior / Supervising Commissioning Engineer. This role will oversee and lead commissioning projects for complex mechanical systems in mission critical, healthcare, power generation, and similar facilities.

The successful candidate will leverage their commissioning expertise, work closely with design engineers, vendors, contractors, and client personnel, and ensure all systems are tested, made operational, optimized, and validated to meet Owner's Project Requirements. This position includes both technical delivery and team leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage commissioning projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with client goals and project requirements.
  • Develop and administer Commissioning Plans and Systems Manuals in accordance with established formats and standards.
  • Oversee QA/QC processes for assigned projects and staff work output.
  • Convert client objectives into technical testing methodologies, considering budget, safety, and environmental impacts.
  • Coordinate with project managers on schedules, staffing, and budgets.
  • Conduct field inspections and generate detailed inspection reports.
  • Manage project invoicing, accounts receivables, and client follow-up.
  • Address risk management issues and ensure compliance with codes, LEED principles, and commissioning protocols.
  • Build and maintain professional networks internally and in the marketplace.
  • Cross-sell additional services across client organizations.
  • Lead staff performance, mentor junior team members, and maintain interdisciplinary coordination with other trades and consultants.
  • Negotiate contracts, prepare proposals, and generate new business opportunities.

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 8–12+ years in the MEP field, with commissioning experience for large mechanical systems in industrial, datacenter, commercial, operations center, high-rise, or healthcare facilities.
  • Minimum of 5 years' field experience in hands-on testing, validation, and troubleshooting of large electrical systems.
  • Strong understanding of system selection, applicable codes, and LEED principles in commissioning.
  • Experience with ASHRAE, BCxA, and/or PECI Cx and RETRO-Cx procedures (preferred).
  • PE license or recognized commissioning certification.
  • Proven leadership skills, self-motivation, and ability to build strong relationships.
