Job Summary
This position oversees the claims process for a commercial auto and general liability portfolio. It involves managing a team of Claims Adjusters, providing technical expertise, ensuring adherence to coverage guidelines, and collaborating with internal stakeholders on complex coverage issues. The director also manages policy limit demands, conducts claims file reviews, and participates in the Trial Committee process to develop resolution strategies for complex cases.
Responsibilities
- Oversee a portfolio of 750 - 1,200 claims, managing policy limit demands and claims handling.
- Provide technical oversight to Claims Account Managers and TPA Claims Handlers, especially for complex claims.
- Collaborate on high-complexity coverage issues with senior management.
- Review claim files and ensure proper handling with TPAs.
- Manage the Trial Committee process, including case reviews, resolution strategies, and reporting.
- Attend mediations and trials for complex cases.
- Review responses to various demands and complete reserve reviews.
- Analyze reports to identify cases for escalation.
- Provide training and facilitate discussions on claims topics.
- Coordinate with other claims leaders to ensure consistency.
- Identify opportunities for loss cost reduction and support financial strategies.
- Address regulatory issues including Medicare, insurance audits, and workers' compensation.
- Participate in projects related to claims management.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience overseeing multi-line claims, including auto and liability.
- At least 5 years of leadership/supervisory experience, preferably in TPA or carrier environments.
- Strong background in coverage analysis, litigation, and complex claims handling.
- Juris Doctorate and/or professional liability experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of Stowers Demands and civil actions management.
- Proper adjuster licenses in applicable states.
- Proven leadership and mentoring skills with a collaborative approach.
- Ability to manage regulatory issues effectively.
