Job Summary:

Responsible for coding and abstracting inpatient, day surgery, emergency and clinic records. Other duties will include CIHI month end submission and balancing, release of information and making corrections to the coding database.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an approved Health Information Management Program.
  • Active member in good standing with the Canadian College of Health Information Management Association.
  • Two (2) years' related work experience.
  • Experience with Meditech, 3M and Code finder would be an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of coding and abstracting software and experience in the electronic health record environment as well as a paper-based system.
  • Knowledge and experience in information privacy laws (e.g., PHIPA, Public Hospital Act).

Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient in the use of ICD-10/CCI coding system.
  • Demonstrated strong computer literacy with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Proven ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written English instructions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, including excellent telephone etiquette and ability to share important information to the team, our patients, and community support partners in an accurate manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and willingness to be flexible to meet department needs.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • Demonstrated commitment to, and understanding of the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Hours of Work: Available for all shifts including weekends and statutory holidays.
