Grant Funded Position

Overview

The Code Compliance Officer I investigates and enforces the applicable property maintenance codes, laws, and ordinances of the City of Corpus Christi. They will respond and work with citizens to bring properties into compliance when applicable and bring violations to fruition through citation when necessary. They will also patrol a specific council district investigating/ensuring applicable City property maintenance codes are adhered to.

Responsibilities

* Investigates property maintenance violations applicable to City codes, ordinances, and laws

* Documents property issues via photographic and written documentation

* Contacts citizens regarding ongoing investigations to assist in abatement efforts or issuance of citation

* Removes signs from utility poles and rights-of-way, and works to communicate sign ordinance with offenders

* Coordinates with citizens and other departments to resolve violations prior to citation

* Provides information to citizens regarding abatement assistance

* Documents all investigations in applicable software (Infor or GovQA) to generate narratives for each case as needed

* Conducts compliance follow-ups on active cases and conducts property visits to ensure compliance with property maintenance codes

* Will conduct public outreach regarding applicable laws with an emphasis on property maintenance codes

* Proactively pursues work without permit operations

* Conducts frequent contractor license checks

* Performs other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

* Non-Exempt - Full-Time Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

* In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications

* High School Diploma/GED

* Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

* A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Required within 6 months of hire

* CJIS Security and Awareness Training Level 1

Required within 18 months of hire

* Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations Certified Code Compliance Officer

Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below:

* Motor Vehicle Record Check: Yes

* Drug Screening: Yes

* Physical Exam: Yes

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
