Coastal Prairie Conservancy seeks Land Protection Manager

The Coastal Prairie Conservancy (CPC) seeks a motivated individual to serve as key member of the conservation team working across CPC's 9-county region of the Texas Coastal Prairie to the south and west of the Greater Houston area. CPC is a nonprofit land trust sustaining a resilient Texas by preserving coastal prairies, wetlands, farms, and ranches to benefit people and wildlife forever.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate relationships and outreach to landowners and prospective easement donors; initiatediscussions with owners of key properties.
  • Manage real estate transactions for conservation, including fee simple acquisitions andconservation easements.
  • Ensure transactions are sound and in accordance with Land Trust Alliance standards and practices.
  • Prepare baseline conditions reports and review management plans for selected conservationeasement projects, and support the Vice President and General Counsel in preparing andnegotiating conservation easements and other legal documents.
  • Provide technical information and support for grant applications for land acquisition projects.
  • Working with the Vice President and General Counsel, support Texas Grasslands and SavannasInitiative (TGSI) and Texas Coastal Prairie Initiative (TCPI), which are part of NRCS's RegionalConservation Partnership Program, including implementation and renewal of programs.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED

  • Willingness to work as a team player with an appreciation of the diverse values and interests ofothers. The Land Protection Manager is a key member of CPC's land conservation team, whichalso includes the Conservation Director and Conservation Associate. The Land Protection.manager will report to CPC's Vice President and General Counsel.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree (advanced degreepreferred) in natural resources management, wildlife biology, rangeland ecology, environmentalsciences, land use planning, or similar area.
  • Minimum of three years (preferably five) work experience in a related field:o Conservation, natural resources management.o Agricultural science, range management, farmland protection.o Grasslands, wetland ecology.o Wildlife management, bird conservation.o Real estate transactions for conservation, including fee simple acquisition and/orconservation easements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and GIS.

LOCATION & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Position will be based primarily at CPC's offices in Houston and/or at CPC's Indiangrass FieldOffice on the Katy Prairie and will require regular in person meetings at both offices.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Travel required to visit potential conservation properties and to develop and maintain relationshipswith agencies, partners, and landowners.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions and to walk unassisted through difficult terrainin all weather conditions.
  • Ability to frequently sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to frequently speak, read, write, and use a computer keyboard.
  • May be required to work some evenings and weekends, as necessary.COMPENSATION
  • Salary commensurate with experience; range $55,000 – $68,000.
  • Benefits include health insurance, retirement plan contribution, paid vacation, and CPC holidays.
  • As an exempt, salaried employee, the Land Protection Manager is not eligible for overtime.
