The Restorative Justice Coordinatorwill provide administrative, clerical, behavioral, safety, and other support to help ensure BELA runs smoothly. This position reports to the Head of School and is an 11-month position starting immediately.
School Operations ResponsibilitiesSupport with whole school arrival, lunch, dismissal, hallway transitions, community meetings, and other community events
Develop and manage the staffing of various school posts (cell phone checks, bathrooms, lunch, and dismissal)
Coordinate and manage early dismissal protocol for all students
Manage locker distribution and maintenance, including assigning lockers, supporting LA mentors, and managing the master key
Actively monitor hallways, bathrooms, and public spaces to maintain cleanliness and calm during transitions
Maintain Thinkery during the school day to receive students referred out of the classroom
Maintain Thinkery materials including referrals, reflection sheets, instructional tools, and writing materials
Attend school community events, including Open Houses, Fairs, and Family Meetings
Ensure smooth operations during meals by overseeing the cafeteria and creating a safe and inclusive lunch experience
Administrative Responsibilities
Record and track daily attendance and make phone calls to families regarding attendance and lateness
Refer excessive attendance concerns to social work team and LA mentors
Monitor, track, and intervene to ensure student uniform compliance using a tracking system; manage family outreach and consequences
Manage the purchasing, cleaning, and restocking of student uniforms
Maintain accurate records of student incidents, behavior, and consequences using ALMA and DeansList
Lead student information system implementation, maintenance, and response to staff referrals
Collect and use behavioral data to develop effective behavior support plans; progress monitor and make data-informed recommendations
Student EmpowerMEnt Programming
Develop Leadership Academy curriculum focused on student leadership development and oversee its execution
Provide training and support to LA mentors to ensure curriculum fidelity
Lead student information implementation, maintenance, and response to staff referrals
In collaboration with the Head of School, prepare LA mentors to lead Sisterhood Circles (Spring 2026)
Organize and support the EmpowerMEnt Cohort Model, including:
[10th & 12th Grade]: Organize the senior speech process, coordinate calendar, support LA mentors, review/approve speeches with Chief of Partnerships and Strategic Initiatives and develop and manage early dismissal process for seniors
[9th & 11th Grade]: Organize camping trip, organize new student institute, oversee peer mediation program
Serve as primary point person for two grade-level cohorts
Address student behavior using transformative justice practices (e.g., restorative conversations/mediations, circles, reintegration meetings) and BELA EmpowerMEnt
Develop and facilitate innovative consequences that provide meaningful learning experiences
Facilitate behavioral interventions and/or student success plans as needed
Conduct family and student restorative reentry circles for students returning from community removal
Lead and facilitate student-to-student mediations and clarity conversations between students and staff
Actively support learning spaces for students in crisis and staff needing additional assistance
Ensure transformative justice practices are culturally and racially responsive
Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
Student Culture & Community Building
Plan and lead community-building experiences and annual culture-building experiences (e.g., Year 9 Institute)
Actively monitor lunch, hallways, bathrooms, and public spaces to ensure safety, cleanliness, and positive transitions
Co-create an inclusive lunch experience by monitoring the cafeteria
Attend community events, including Open Houses, Fairs, overnight trips, and Summer Institute
Facilitate student surveys to gather insight on school climate and culture, ensuring each student can identify a caring adult
Onboard new and transfer students through BELA EmpowerMEnt lessons and community expectations
Staff Collaboration & Support
Support teachers in classroom management, including use of restorative practices like talking circles, community builders, and connection circles
Facilitate and lead 3 annual Student-Led Conferences: train teachers, prepare documentation, and organize logistics
Collaborate with school administration and staff to maintain a cohesive school climate aligned with the BELA EmpowerMEnt Guide
Facilitate and lead BELA EmpowerMEnt professional learning sessions
Collaborate with teachers, families, administrators, and school personnel to support student behavior
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree
Training in or working knowledge of transformative and/or restorative justice principles and/or practices
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines accurately and timely
Sound judgment and initiative in problem-solving
Demonstrated professionalism with educators, administrators, students, and families
Experience developing and implementing behavior plans and interventions
Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
Strong understanding of social, emotional, and behavioral development
Strengths-based, solution-driven approach
Effective technology usage
Minimum 3 years of experience working directly with youth in traditionally underserved communities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Track record of successful prior employment, preferably in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn
