The Machinist performs routine assignment planning, layout, set-up, operating and making tooling adjustments for various types of manual, CNC and numerically controlled shop equipment. Machinists work from blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions. Machinists may communicate directly with Engineers to understand the purpose of a part assembly. Machinists inspect machining operations against specified tolerances and identify and repair minor machine malfunctions. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manufacturing and inspecting detailed parts and tools from blueprints, sketches, drawings and verbal instructions using a variety of machining tools and equipment (mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders, jig bores and other machining equipment) and using mathematical and geometrical calculations.
- Determining how to set up machines based on instructions received
- Performing minor repairs of equipment
- Keeping work area clean and free from safety hazards. Maintain acceptable quality and efficiency level.
- Proving out CNC programs when required
- Sets up and operates CNC lathe and mills and/or manual machines where set-up is well defined with limited supervision.
- Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
- Mastercam experience helpful
- Inspects parts given a defined inspection process. Calculates dimensions, tolerances and machine offset adjustments using knowledge of mathematics and inspection instruments
- Performs in-process inspection
- Maintains close tolerance dimensions while producing parts at the rates established for a particular operation
- Must have good verbal and written skills
- Being a team member is essential
- Must be dependable and display a positive attitude in the workplace
- Minimum two years experience operating CNC and manual equipment
- Wage is depending on the amount of experience
- MENTAL AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS: High mental and visual attention required for planning difficult work methods and sequences to obtain size, shape, or physical qualities of product.
- PHYSICIAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS: Ability to sit, stand, reach, walk, lift, use fingers, grasp, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions. Ability to exert up to 60 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- EQUIPMENT USED: Ability to operate CNC mill and lathe with live tooling. Operate basic hand and power tools, digital calipers, micrometers, tape measures, band saw, sander, drill press, ear protectors, dust mask, respirator, latex and leather gloves, and safety glasses.
