Position Overview: This expert-level Cloud Engineer role supports the clientunder the New York State HBITS program. The project is a multi-year initiative to replace the legacy Unemployment Insurance system with a modern, integrated platform that improves services for the Department of Labor's customers, partners, and staff. The engineer will be responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining secure and scalable cloud-native solutions, primarily on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Responsibilities: - Design, develop, and maintain cloud-based systems aligned with security and operational best practices.
- Build and deploy cloud-native applications using tools like Cloud Build and Cloud Deploy.
- Engineer cloud infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
- Configure and manage core cloud services: IAM, networking, containers, logging, and OSs (Linux/Windows).
- Manage backups and restoration for VMs and CloudSQL databases.
- Maintain compliance with centralized security policies, including firewalls and patch management.
- Build and support CI/CD pipelines and continuous testing frameworks.
- Create and maintain architecture diagrams and documentation.
- Optimize cloud resource usage and cost-effectiveness.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues.
- Mentor state developers in cloud technologies and processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into cloud solutions.
- Follow Change Management processes and document updates as needed.
Qualifications: - 7+ years of experience designing, developing, and maintaining secure cloud systems.
- 5+ years of experience using Terraform, scripting (Python or PowerShell), managing GCP services, Linux (Red Hat preferred), GKE clusters, and Windows/Linux server administration.
- 3+ years of experience using CI/CD pipeline technologies.
- 3+ years of experience working with GitHub repositories.
- 2+ years of experience with Prisma Cloud, Tenable, and OS patching/upgrading.
