POSITION SUMMARY: The Clinical Social Worker (CSW) is responsible for the overall Patient Therapeutic Environment. The CSW will also ensure that all patients participate in Therapeutic Groups while a patient of Southeastern Regional Medical Center (SRMC). Also responsible for psychosocial assessments and diagnosis formulations for individual patients experiencing acute mental illness, substance abuse, and emotional disorders, including evaluation of family and other socio-economic dynamics to provide input to interdisciplinary treatment team planning. The CSW will ensure completion of this process and will require liaison activities throughout the hospital and community-based resources. Assesses, plans and coordinates the discharge planning process for high risk behavioral health patients having complex discharge planning needs. EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE: Minimum Required: Master's prepared with a degree in Clinical Social Work from an accredited institution. Six months in a medical setting, preferably in a hospital (can be an internship). Incumbent will be required to attain NCI/Seclusion/Restraint certification upon hire, with recertification required annually. Required to maintain BLS certification annually through the American Heart Association Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to deal with other healthcare professionals, patients, families, capacity to work and make decisions independently and to handle emotionally stressful situations, experience with crisis intervention. Preferred: Licensure by the North Carolina Licensure Certification Board for Social Work to meet accrediting requirements and North Carolina State Law as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (CLSW). Must maintain a minimum of 40 relevant in-service training hours every two years to maintain CLSW status. Two years experience as a CLSW on a behavioral health care inpatient unit preferred. Six months in a medical setting, preferably in a hospital (can be an internship). ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Incumbent must demonstrate an ability to apply age-appropriate principles of communication relevant to adult and geriatric patients. Must demonstrate competence in the use of equipment and application of procedures before being allowed to perform independently.
