Bachelor of Science or equivalent combination of education and related experience. 2. Certification in: NYS Department of Education Clinical Laboratory Technologist License ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Unit Specific 1. Overall role of Lead Technologist within the Blood Bank in the performance of blood services, which included the testing component of type and screen with crossmatch and other related blood bank techniques and procedures. 2. Assign workload to personnel in the laboratory in the corresponding section of the Blood Bank in order to obtain maximum productivity. Assist technologists and technicians with more difficult and complex laboratory tests and analytes of test results and result interpretation. 3. Train technical staff relative to instrumentation and understanding of the concept of the test procedure being performed. Assure proper functioning of equipment and its performance. Maintain quality checks on results and document all statistical data. 4. Develops, implements, and supervises quality control for each test performed to ensure accuracy and precise patient test results, and establishes quality assurance protocols for all test procedures. 5. Responsible for maintaining a working inventory of reagents and consumables and ensuring the proper function of equipment. 6. Monitor all refrigerator, freezer, and incubator temperature charts for limits of acceptable range and document accordingly. Equipment maintenance logs and quality control records, including review of proficiency surveys, and document corrective action when applicable. 7. Participate in monthly quality assurance meetings and prepare quarterly performance monitors. 8. Verify and sign completed Blood Bank work and check for accuracy and validity. 11. Responsible for interaction with clinical services during tour of duty, including implementation of massive transfusion protocol and internal or external disaster occurrences in the absence of the Associate Director. 12. Monitoring transfusion procedures that occur as they relate to inpatient, emergency medicine, ambulatory care, and perioperative services.
