We are a market leader in our industry, committed to growth, compliance, and strategic expansion. We are looking for an experienced Capital Projects Manager to join our team.

As a Capital Projects Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing capital projects throughout their lifecycle, from initiation to service go-live, including initial modeling and costing, capturing project requirements into a brief, managing the design process, procurement of build solutions, project delivery, and handover to operations.

Ideally, you will have extensive experience in project management, a background in construction or engineering, and excellent leadership skills.

This role is critical in supporting the business's growth strategy through capital deployment projects, working closely with external delivery partners and internal departments such as Operations, Commercial, Finance, Technology, Quality, and Risk.

Capital projects include the construction and mobilization of services in brick-built facilities, modular units, relocatable units, with budgets ranging from £1m to £15m.

Core Responsibilities:

  • High-level modeling and costing of capital projects to support business growth and new business acquisition.
  • Creating project briefs that capture internal build requirements and effectively communicate them to external construction or modular unit providers.
  • Managing the planning application process.
  • Managing the construction design process with third-party architects and external consultants.
  • Developing project delivery plans and associated budgets.
  • Procurement of build solutions, including agreement of JCT contracts supported by an internal legal team.
  • Managing the overall delivery plan for property construction and other mobilization workstreams such as service delivery, technology, Quality, and Risk.
  • Managing associated construction subcontractors.
  • Controlling project spend to ensure adherence to budgets.
  • Overseeing project deliverables to ensure high quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Identifying and mitigating project risks for successful delivery.
  • Preparing regular project status reports, including timelines, budgets, and risks.
  • Smooth handover of projects to Operations and Facilities Management.
  • Conducting lessons learned reviews and implementing continuous improvements.

    Skills and Experience:

    • Experience in construction/built environment project implementation, including refurbishment and new build schemes, managing both in-house and consultant design teams.
    • Experience managing construction projects in healthcare, specifically diagnostic imaging facilities such as MRI, CT, PET CT.
    • Proven success in managing large capital projects within budget and timeline following RIBA methodology, with knowledge of statutory requirements.
    • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects under tight deadlines.
    • Strong financial management skills related to capital projects, including change management and reporting.
    • Experience overseeing all project workstreams, including service delivery, clinical registration, and technology, working with in-house SMEs.
    • Ability to develop thorough project briefs and communicate requirements effectively to third parties.
    • Ability to build trusted relationships with subcontractors.
    • Self-starter with proactive problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.

    Qualifications:

    • A first degree in construction, engineering, building surveying, or related built environment field.
    • At least 5 years of experience managing construction projects.
    • Experience with healthcare capital projects, especially diagnostic imaging.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Word at an intermediate/advanced level.
    • Qualifications such as Prince2, MSP, APM are desirable but not essential.
