Job Description: The Client Retention Specialist will work with assigned accounts focused on analyzing, contacting, negotiating, contracting, and closing new and existing business to exceed sales targets. They will execute against sales goals, including accurate forecasting and revenue attainment through energy consulting services. This includes attention to detail, identifying client needs and challenges in energy procurement, delivering solution presentations to clients, developing proposals, negotiating contracts, and closing business in a timely manner. The Client Retention Specialist will work closely with Operations and Sales Departments, reporting to the person directly above them in the company organization chart, currently the Regional Sales Manager, while supporting energy advisory services initiatives.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance assigned house accounts and mini-business programs.
  • Drive revenue growth accountability to meet or exceed expectations and identify revenue drivers and metrics focused on market expansion and portfolio diversification.
  • Lead the account planning process effectively and create or find resources needed to renew and grow accounts efficiently through strategic energy portfolio management.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal Operations, Sales, and Contracting & Pricing Teams to establish and drive account program development.
  • Maintain thorough understanding of industry trends, business processes, financial measurements, performance indicators, and key competitors in clean energy strategies and emerging market opportunities.
  • Understand the product sales cycle and challenges, including competitor strategies for power purchasing agreements (PPAs), energy procurement, demand response programs and peak load management leveraging this knowledge to hone sales strategies.
  • Monitor performance-to-plan throughout the fiscal year and adjust direction, focus, and sales initiatives as needed to effectively penetrate markets including retail electricity supplier opportunities, natural gas procurement, and energy efficiency consulting.
  • Must be comfortable with complex matrix management environment.
  • Willing to operate flexibly across large and diverse geography and client base.
  • Handle other administrative tasks as required.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred. Sales experience in energy consulting services preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years sales experience, with at least 1 year face-to-face selling of complex solutions in energy risk management initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success in closing deals involving comprehensive energy solutions.
  • Proven ability to uncover needs and buying processes related to capacity management and client requirements.
  • Skilled in consultative and value selling methodology with deep understanding of client needs, challenges, and goals in sustainability initiatives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications required (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in CRM platform required. Salesforce preferred.
  • Must be flexible with ability to work effectively and collaboratively with all colleagues on community power initiatives and client service excellence.
