ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a Civil / Structural Engineer to support N3B in a direct role! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Responsibilities
- Develop plans and specifications following applicable standards.
- Use understanding of the design process and ability to mentor other engineers.
- Perform a combination of on-site and office duties for various projects (e.g. highway/ transportation, structural, drainage, site development, and other public works improvements).
- Support communication with and coordination of other engineering disciplines, other company divisions, and consultants, as needed, to complete projects.
- Perform field investigations and assessments.
- Perform standard computations or analysis.
- Prepare civil / structural drawings and visual aids.
- Perform occasional drafting and/or figure development using technical software as required.
- Apply prescribed techniques and procedures in accordance with established criteria to perform assigned tasks.
- Perform the design of various civil / structural engineering projects, and checks design work of staff and design engineers assigned to projects under their control.
- Mentors and trains junior engineering staff.
- Preparation or modification of various types of reports, specifications, plans, forms, policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Education & Years of Experience - Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related fields from an ABET-accredited college or university and 5+ years of relevant experience
- Citizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work
- Clearance - To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), highly preferred.
- Must have a detailed understanding of roadway, grading, drainage, structural, and utility design.
- Proven ability to work in and support a team environment.
- High level of independence, confidence, and strong work ethic.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Ability to understand and apply industry codes and standards.
- Experience with Autodesk design platforms, preferably Civil3D.
- Strong problem-solving skills through the application of fundamental engineering principles.
- Ability to effectively foster productive relationships with team members, clients, industry stakeholders, and regulators.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; a great listener with prompt, polished, and specific responses.
- Welcome feedback and find ways to perform work better, are determined, organized, and detail oriented.
- Must have communication and organizational skills as well as the ability to multi-task and work independently and in a team.
About the Site N3B manages the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract for the U.S. Department of Energy Environmental Management's Los Alamos Field Office, which is responsible for cleaning up contamination that resulted from LANL operations before 1999 and packaging and shipping radioactive and hazardous waste off-site for permanent disposal (n3b-la.com).
